too much about prog

There was much more regarding the teaching techniques, then there was actual content, Perhaps in different volumes it gets better, but this is my review of the first volume.

So far, so good.

I just lost a long, nearly completed review due to an incoming phone call,so to make this as quick as I can to save my fingers -

I thought this very well done, and really appreciated the additional contextual information provided by the native speaker/instructor. For those that might get thrown off by accents, be aware that the advanced student speaks with a mild-moderate British accent, but nothing that should throw off the average American English speaker off while listening.

Over 20 years ago, I trained as an Arabic linguist in the military, and was fluent in another language before that with smatterings of five or six other languages (excluding Latin and ancient Greek). The two I ended up retaining fluency in were taught using total immersion, which seems to be the general approach here. Highly effective.

I like the structure of the lesson. My main question is if this course as a whole focuses exclusively on MSA (the formal written form of Arabic and used in official statements and broadcasting, somewhat akin in theory to the British "Queen's English") or if there is any exposure to the various dialects of each country/region (which is, as far as I know, only spoken and never written - that's what MSA is for). You can speak MSA, sure, that's what we were initially trained to do, but if you spoke MSA in an Arabic-speaking country, it would be very formal indeed and clearly make you stand out as a visitor. Which is why we trained in dialect recognition and then did advanced training in the dialect for specific areas before deployment. :)

Overall, a great refresher lesson, and something I would definitely consider should I desire a dusting-off of my rusty Arabic (MSA) skills - since I can't seem to locate a cassette player anywhere to listen to my old class lesson tapes.......

I'm making a note of this program's methods and may just consider it for a couple of languages I am starting to study now in conjunction with my work in genealogy. I'm picky about my languages - I have passed on a lot of them, but this one is staying put for comparison purposes to future potential systems.

A waste of time

Hello everybody.
This 'audiobook'is an advertisement or the audible equivalent of actual spam, I'm surprised they allow this kind of 'scam'. It is not an audiobook or anything close enough to a language course. Moreover most of it is an 'introduction' in English and doesn't have anything to do with the actual lesson, plus they should write Egyptian instead of simply Arabic as the short conversation that is included is only in local language, while people will think it's MSA. This is the audible equivalent of pure spam as the content is mostly an advertisement for the website of the author.
