Publisher's Summary

Seneca's Letters from a Stoic is considered one of the thought-leaders of philosophy in the history of classical literature. The compilation offers a comprehensive introduction to the stoic philosophy. Stoicism is Hellenistic philosophy that dominated literature and conversation until around Three AD. Its roots are traced back to ancient Greece at its founding by Zeno of Citium.

The practice teaches that moral virtue is the highest "good" and it is developed by knowledge. The "best" members of society are wise because they live in absolute harmony with Reason that governs the natural world and they are immune to "worldly" desires such as greed, pleasure, and pain. Seneca uses these principals to offer his own advice for living one's best life.

The Letters serve as a guide for maximizing the "good" and disregarding the "bad". A must-listen for any classical enthusiasts!

Interesting but dry

I am studying stoicism and this is one of the critical pieces of documentation one is to read. I found it well done but it might be one of those books that is better to listen to first then read the paper book to take notes and keep for future studies

Meh

I was not a fan of the narrator or the speed of his narration. That was enough to sour my outlook on the book.

Great stories!

Great but I would recommend the hard text. Between weird translated parts and this speaker, I cannot finish this book

Poor reader

Great material, but the narrator reads it as though he has no idea what he’s reading or even finds it not worth reading. Perhaps that’s why he rushes through it and leaves the listener unsatisfied. Find another, more sympathetic and understanding narrator who actually admires Seneca.

Why have this narrator?!!!

Wonderful book but this narrator sounds like a robot and was totally wrong. I am buying the paperback because I just can’t enjoy this with the narrator as he is.
