Story
Today, most doctors, dietitians, and even diabetes specialists consider type 2 diabetes to be a chronic and progressive disease - a life sentence with no possibility of parole. But the truth, as Dr. Fung reveals in this paradigm-shifting book, is that type 2 diabetes is reversible. Writing with clear, persuasive language, he explains why conventional treatments that rely on insulin or other blood-glucose-lowering drugs can actually exacerbate the problem, leading to significant weight gain and even heart disease.

We are in the midst of an obesity epidemic, but despite being inundated with diet advice we are only getting fatter. We count calories and exercise regularly, yet still the pounds won't budge. Why? In this highly enjoyable and provocative book, Dr Jason Fung sets out a groundbreaking new theory: that obesity is caused by our hormones, rather than a lack of self-control. He reveals that overproduction of insulin in the body is the root cause of obesity and obesity-related illnesses including type 2 diabetes

Publisher's Summary
Fasting is emerging as one of the most exciting medical advancements in recent memory. Its list of benefits extends far beyond weight loss and includes improved cardiovascular health, lower blood pressure, protection against cancer, and better cognitive function.
While many of us may be able to handle the physical effects of fasting, the mental and social challenges are often daunting. There are so many opportunities to eat during the day, and sometimes it's rude not to participate in meals. What do you do with the time you used to spend eating? How do you navigate social situations while fasting? How can a food addict mentally prepare for a fast?
Life in the Fasting Lane fills all of these gaps, and more, by bringing together three leading voices in the fasting community to provide a book written for both the body and the mind, helping people cope with all aspects - physical, social, emotional, medical - of fasting. It blends cutting-edge medical and scientific information about fasting with the perspective of a patient who has battled obesity the majority of her adult life.

Practical and helpful guide for IF
this book is less about Dr Fung and more about Eve Mayor, who made a U turn on her health issues due to IF. What I liked about this book was that it shared a true common perspective of what it is to go on IF and what you go through post that. Personal feeling of guilt and happiness, challenges faced, people's reaction and your own behaviour- this book is relatable and covers something or the other of that. I totally agree with one line- when you are feasting, you want to fast and when you are fasting you want to feast. Its more of an inspirational book and feels like you are listening to a friend who has tried IF and can guide you through it. Enjoyable and worth it.

Nothing new if you've read the Obesity Code
This is for you, who wants a personal reference for fasting and enjoy listening to people's success stories. However, if you have read The Obesity Code , this book will have practically no new information for you. There is nothing wrong with it, the narration is great and the information valid, it's just that it is basically a truncated version of The Obesity Code with inserts of Eve Meyer's experience with fasting. Not what I thought I would get.

My journey has just begun
I've been contemplating fasting for the last two years. Read all of Dr.Fungs books and have been doing it in stages. I don't eat after 7:00 p.m. and don't eat again until noon. I feel I'm ready for longer fasts because I no longer have the urge to snack. This book is a good guide to ease me into my next phase. I enjoyed hearing the stories and can relate to them. Thank you Dr. Fung for being innovative and daring to step out of the pharmaceutical box.

5 star all the way!!
An amazing book that couldn’t have come at a time where I felt all was lost with my constant weight issues for over 30 years.
An easy detailed listen that really is your last resort if you need to get off the yo yo dieting and binge eating disorder you may have developed over the years.
I’m 7 pounds down already in 2 weeks
A gift from god xx. Thank you Jason and his team x

Mixed, mostly positive
I'm a big fan of Dr Fung, and I believe I've read everything he's written, at least 3 times. This isn't just because I'm a slow reader, its also because he recycles his work. The only thing new he has in this book is a short discussion on Behaviour Economics (and as a BE, I approve).
Eve and Megan added a lot of perspective to this book. But I didn't like how the story unfolded. I'm reading this book and I have not had weeks to 'flex my fasting muscle' So to narrate it in the "now that you've spent 3 months on IF and are comfortable ..."
I'm an IF'er of about 18 months, and I love it for so many reasons. and I 100% agree that you need to start slow to build the muscle. All in all I found it a little too much 'off the shelf self-help', and not enough personal stories. I understand why, but I felt a little choked.
But if you want to get started on IF, then this is a fantastic start!

Great if your reason for fasting is weightloss
Very little of Jason Fung in this book. What is provided by him is taken from the Obesity Code. Mostly how to lose (a massive amount of ) weight with fasting and how to fit that into your working and social life. Great encouragement for massively obese but didn't do anything for me

A revelation!
Having been dieting for nearly 40 years and finding myself at my heaviest weight ever, it is a revelation to learn that my failure to lose weight is not a failure on my part but of failure of the science behind all the diets I have tried!
A well written book outlining both the science and methods of fasting with the added bonus of personal accounts. I will definitely be re listening and recommending this to everyone!

Motivational for New & Overweight Prople
Largely motivational for overweight people and introduction to fasting and intermittent fasting. Highlights the benefits with tips for staying on course. Doesn’t cover the diet in detail or the food ingredients or nutrition per se at depth and is focussed on why you should start fasting and it’s repeated countless times. Overall a motivational and introduction to this way of life. Well presented in that particular & introduction targeted respect.

Excellent book for new and seasoned fasters
I've read a number of books on fasting and all have provided different perspectives and ideas on fasting. This is hands down one of the best books I've read on the subject and I particularly like the different perspectives from a Doctor, a clinician and a woman who has struggled with weight her entire adult life. IF became a way of life for me almost 6 months ago and I'm feeling amazing. I started off slowly and gradually built up my fasting muscle. I've also been able to keep things pretty flexible mixing up my eating windrow lengths etc. I very recently did my first 47 hour fast which I never before would have thought possible! Weight loss has been gradual (from 73 to 67kg so far) and my body composition changes are noticeable. My energy is high and as time goes on it's become easier to incorporate into my lifestyle. I hope it does for you too!

Weightloss is about controlling HUNGER!
Read it then start. Or, read it as you fast. I have followed Dr Fung for ages, then listened to my Dr and stopped fasting and stacked on weight which only fasting could control. Now, I ignore the Dr and am doing the extended fasts my insulin resistance requires. I have hope again, I am no longer saving for the gastric balloon. I listen to this book over and over to support myself and the mindset of "Weightloss is about controlling HUNGER, not calories". I did a 6.5 day fast listening to this book.

Practical fasting
Fabulous insight into practical day to day fasting. Informative with scientific background and lay person experience too. Essentially saying that fasting isn’t one size fits all. Experiment with different ways to fast as it should fit into your life so that it can be a lifestyle not a diet.

Probably a good intro
Fung et al are excellent on the implementation of fasting, especially the longer versions that diabetics may need. Their presentations on keto and / or low carb diets and their scientific basis are less polished, but may be adequate for beginners. Numerical details re carb amounts, GI, and GL were poorly translated into audio format. Nonetheless, hats off to these 3 for their groundbreaking life-saving work.
