Publisher's Summary

In the quiet safety of the Bluebird Ranch, old promises resurface and unexpected love brings new hope. Though tragedy has wrecked her life, Allie Siders holds on to the hope that her five-year-old daughter, Betsy, will speak again. But with a stalker out for revenge, all Allie can think about now is their safety. She must sever all ties and abandon life as she knows it. She heads to the peaceful Bluebird Ranch, nestled deep in Texas hill country, and to the only person who can help them. The ranch is a sanctuary for abused horses, and also for troubled youths: the perfect place for Betsy to grow and recover. Ranch owner Elijah DeAngelo eagerly welcomes the duo. But Rick Bailey—the ranch foreman and DeAngelo’s right hand man—hasn’t decided to let his guard down... yet. Promises made long ago soon force Rick and Allie to work together to escape danger. Will they discover love along the way?

Cheesy and Silly

I almost didn’t make it through this book. The story was silly. Allie, the main character, waffled between being completely in love one minute and hating her hero, Rick, the next. I found myself rolling my eyes often. The author stretched the story to make it work. It was completely predictable, cheesy, and sappy. At the end of each chapter they insert this western, dramatic music. It was too much. The narrator didn’t help either. If you’re looking for a love story with depth this isn’t one.

Twisted Story

I liked the ending when Charlie revealed himself. The twist and turns that Allie went through as she traveled through the story. Murder, car accidents, kidnapping, and threats from grandparents who try to steal Allie's daughter from her all lead to a man who has been mislead by his brother and does all he can to destroy someone who had no idea of what was going on.
Rick is the answer to her prayers. This was a good romance with enough suspense to keep you listening until the end. The narrator made the story very interesting.

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review via audiobook boom.

Great story line...music was distracting

Wonderful story, however, the music ending a chapter and between chapters was annoying and distracting. The second book of the series was even better, so I would urge someone to overlook the music! It's worth it! And the second book (which I just completed) does NOT have the music.

Interesting Mystery / Disappointing with the rest

I enjoyed the narrator immensely. She kept the story interesting. The murder mystery part was pretty good, although seemed to be turned on and off easily at times. I was greatly disappointed in the very descriptive romance part of the story. Much of it sounded like a secular romance novel - something I was not looking for.

Excellent story

Me and my husband listened to this together and loved the story. It had just the right amount of suspense, action, mystery and love. We wouldn't change a thing about the story but could have done without the music before and at the end of every chapter, but even with that I would strongly recommend this to anyone who loves a good story with lots of twists.

Good mystery

What didn’t you like about Aimee Lilly’s performance?

Not good with men's voices, kept hearing her swallow.

Any additional comments?

While this was a good mystery, the loud music between chapters drowned out the narrator and totally distracted from the story, and narrator was hard to listen to with men's voices. Not much Christian content, which was really disappointing.

Enjoyable!

I enjoyed the story, I enjoyed the narrator. The only thing I didn't like was the music at the end of the chapter and at the beginning of the chapter. I look forward to listening to more Colleen Coble books.

Good listen

Not crazy about the music that plays between each chapter. I find that distracting but the book itself was good.

music

This book is an enjoyable read, but I find it spoilt by unecessary guitar music between chapters
