Audie Award Finalist, Classic, 2014

From the Nobel Prize-winning author of One Hundred Years of Solitude comes a masterly evocation of an unrequited passion so strong that it binds two people's lives together for more than half a century.

In their youth, Florentino Ariza and Fermina Daza fall passionately in love. When Fermina eventually chooses to marry a wealthy, well-born doctor, Florentino is devastated, but he is a romantic. As he rises in his business career, he whiles away the years in 622 affairs - yet he reserves his heart for Fermina. Her husband dies at last, and Florentino purposefully attends the funeral. Fifty years, nine months, and four days after he first declared his love for Fermina, he does so again.

With humorous sagacity and consummate craft, Gabriel García Márquez traces an exceptional half-century of unrequited love. Though it seems never to be conveniently contained, love flows through the novel in many wonderful guises - joyful, melancholy, enriching, and ever surprising.

Celebrated work. But it never left a lasting impression

Couldnt finish this book. I am well aware how celebrated the book and the author is but the narration and the plot felt so bland that I felt I was listening to the plot for the heck of it.

There are far better works out there

great book, just not "100 years of solitude"

great story, epic style, reading is nearly up to the mark, GGM as always makes you live in a whole different time and place through his words. you can feel the temperature in the city and the lamentation of lost love as real as the sip of coffee you take.

Gorgeous Book!

Beautiful book with many magical moments I went back to listen to and savour...taste and smell and digest and enjoy once again. Fantastic narration by Armando. His voice is calming and his diction, crystal clear. The whole experience was like watching a long, lazy movie. The scenes came alive with stunning clarity. I was transported from my immediate surroundings into another world, far from today in time and place. It is a journey from covid to cholera, present to past... get this book, now!

Interesting Listening

A masterpiece. Very well read, too. The characters and the setting came to life with the lucid reading.
The story is a quiet, lingering, strange, emphatic love story. As also the story of the quiet determination of one of the lovers to get his way, through a strange and tortuous life. It is well written, well translated and it was enjoyable listening to the story.

And finally I got to savour this amazing book, made more delectable by the excellent life like narration by Armando Duran
To imagine a love that transcends half a century and culminates in such a simple yet memorable way is the usp of this story

The best book about love I've known so far

I have read One Hundred Years of Solitude and was interested to read Love in the Time of Cholera. This was my first audiobook experience and thoroughly loved it. The narrator is great although I needed to reduce the speed to 0.95x to properly follow some parts.

The story is epic. The storytelling capabilities of Marquez is on point here. Enjoy for yourselves this tale ot love, old age and cholera. Especially poignant in this time of the Coronavirus.
