Publisher's Summary

Book 2 in the Eisenhorn series.

Inquisitor Eisenhorn must track down and defeat the forces who would destroy him or face the wrath of the Ordo Malleus....

Listen to It Because:

Eisenhorn's back in a classic thriller. What could be cooler than an inquisitor on the run for a crime he didn't commit? Not much. How much is Eisenhorn willing to compromise himself – and his closest friends – and risk his soul for a chance to clear his name?

The Story:

A century after his recovery of the alien Necroteuch, Gregor Eisenhorn is one of the Imperial Inquisition's most celebrated agents. But when a face from his past returns to haunt him, and he is implicated in a great tragedy that devastates the world of Thracian Primaris, Eisenhorn's universe crumbles around him. The daemon Cherubael is back, and seeks to bring the inquisitor to ruin - either by his death, or by turning him to the service of the Dark Gods.

Kirito Eisenhorn

This one didn't quite give the same feel as the first. All of Eisenhorn's problems get tidied up too nicely and too easily. The villains didn't feel as threatening, nor their plots as interesting. The reveal at the end, however, leaves me with so many questions I'm dying to have answered. While Eisenhorn's plot armor is amped up I feel like I saw a side to him that I hadn't seen before and I have to know more.

Excellent

loved it. Longworth brings a stunning performance to a wonderful piece of fiction.

I will admit that I found it slow to start after the opening scene, but I stuck with it and thoroughly enjoyed the payoff. Largely, this can be attributes to Longworth's narration and rendition of each character.

The story is quite good indeed, a great read... but Longworth makes the entire piece excellent.

A complete classic!

Easily one of the best Dan Abnett has to offer. With a wide arcing story that paints an intriguing view of the imperium beyond Space Marines...I cannot recommend this enough!

Worth the long build up intriguing investigation

The book showed multi dimensions of Eisenhorn and went through several investigations. We get to witness him spiralled down the path of a redical inquisitor and closing the line slowly. This is also mirrored by the main antagonist.

The final battle is on the side of too short, though.

A great continuation of a fun trilogy

Can honestly say overall, this one was my favorite of Dan's Eisenhorn trilogy. An already establised storyline with a very good, self contained story. Could not put this one down.

Toby Longworth is an excellent narrator.

Toby Longworth really stands out to me as an excellent narrator, and his ability to be consistent with both subtle and not so subtle character identities is impressive. The story itself is one of the most iconic set to the Warhammer 40,000 backdrop.

Loved it

Narration great but cringed slightly at the mutant "twist" dialogue. Listening to the evil characters with some noise cancelling headphones is truly harrowing.

Story also good but ending felt very rushed - you spend 9 hours going through the story and then it is all wrapped up in the space of a few minutes with a comment along the lines of "everything was sorted". It felt like a cop-out given the amount of time given to fairly trivial parts of the story. I suspect the author was struggling to cut the story down to an acceptable length.

Gets bombarded with characters

the first Eisenhorn book was excellent, exciting and well told which a plot that kept you thinking. This following 100 years after the first book starts off the same and continues till about half way where I felt it got overwhelmed with new characters and monologuing.

Dan Abnett at his finest

Can a pure man slide into damnation without changing a single ideal? This is the underlying theme of the Eisenhorn trilogy.
Beautifully constructed characters and a storyline right out of epic Greek tragedy, this book is a great example of how a skilled author can take even rhe most chaotic setting (pun intended) and uplifts it into a story that resonates to the reader.

Pretty Good but...

The reading is immersive and the story for the most part makes sense. But, there are several occasions where it seems like the author forgot Eisenhorn's inability to make facial expressions, kind of brole the immersion at times but all around still a nice book.
