Underwhelming, Nauseous and Slightly Misleading
Like most users, I suspect, I chose to listen to this audio book because of Michael Caine. When you actually get to hear his voice (there are a number of others) his performance is classic Caine—brilliant. However, like most topics these days, instead of being entertaining the producers have elected to turn the program into a platform for social politics—cue the vomit.
Explaining how John Gotti became John Gotti is one thing. Asserting that it was racism, poverty and the lack of ‘social capital’ that caused Gotti to become a sadistic, violent criminal that plagued his own people and society as a whole is quite another.
Next time you want to bring in so-called experts to upstage Michael Caine (who again, is brilliant) may I humbly suggest a new title and place it in the psychology/political/social mad-science section:
Michael Caine (and other randos): Gangs and how you and the rest of society can feel bad about being the reason they exist.

starts strong, ends poorly.
Michael Caine 's delivery is spot on. I enjoyed the first few episodes and learned a few things. By the end the excuses for aberrant behavior because of skin color wrote thin. Every scum bag criminal in this series was white up until the final one who, for some reason, her dark colored skin made her criminality excusable or sympathetic.

Michael Caine
my only critical point would be the choice of putting background music every 30 seconds. But this is more than made up with Michael Caine's smooth buttery voice.

Skin color is no excuse for being a Criminal
Starts off good then falls flat to the modern agenda on how whites are just bad people in general and colored people have an excuse for committing crimes when they do commit them... 5 stars for the beginning 0 for the end

Spoiled by irritating music. Dialog drowned out.
Was looking forward to this. I listened to the first two chapters. Just had to stop after the 2nd chapter. Spoiled by irritating music throughout.
Just like every Audible original that is included with membership, it is constantly assaulting (or should that be Insulting) the ears with added music.
Why do they keep spoiling the Audible included content with this nonsense?
It's meant to be an audiobook, not a flipping musical.

Awful!
I really do object when crimals are lauded as heroes, they are evil men, not worthy of praise. I cannot read beyond the first chapter as it just makes me angry!

Superb, Riveting Back To Back Listening.
Sir Michael Caine performs an excellent narration in this brilliant, informative & captivating production.
The veil is lifted so we get to peek beyond the mystique, the stereotypes and myths surrounding some notoriously well known (& not so well known) gangs & gangsters.
We get some reveling insights into the psychology of the gang, facts from fiction and the truth behind the stories.
It's refreshingly good that the gang's victims are also given compassionate consideration so whilst acknowledging our virtually obsessive fascination with gangs & gangsters, it's not just about glorification of gangs & gangsters, infact far from.
The live interviews especially one with a former female 'gang' member's a bit of a surprise & also quite touching.

Solid serial
I honestly didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did but considering it was just Michael Caine holding our hand through many stories we've all heard of but with a little more depth and understanding that we love to glorify horrible people. This became one of my favourite listens this year. Especially the Omerta & Jesse James episodes.

Disappointing
Have enjoyed all other Michael Caine audible productions, however this started well enough and then plummeted in to Woke drivel. history is history, you can't change it just learn from it, you certainly can not judge historical figures by today's apologist standards. What next condemnation of the actions of the men at rorke's drift ?

Great for all Michael Caine fans!
Having really enjoyed the last Michael Caine Audible podcast (Heists), I was straight onto this as soon as it released, and had finished the series before the day was up. It is well produced and well narrated. If I am being completely honest though, I could probably listen to Michael Caine reading a shopping list and still give it five stars - he is just so cool to listen to. This podcast is very reminiscent of Caine's gangster films, and he also puts a bit of personal story/reflection in each story. Well worth the listen.

Heists in way better
While Heists was amazing, this one was ok for most of it. Episodes 5 and 6 were misfortuned on their ideas.
In episode 5, I agree with not glorifying criminals, but in the same episode, they “show all the historical information” when they mentioned their “criminal of choice”.
In episode 6, they appealed to “racism” to justify why in certain areas, the police always assume beforehand that it is a gang-related crime. Statistics, maybe? The worst was the lady saying that there is no difference between James Bond and a youngster committing a crime, as they both are murderers. Well, in my books, 007 is fighting the good fight, stopping criminals.
Those unfortunate comments shifted focus from the lovely story of the lady that managed to leave her life of crime.
It's a pity this could not deliver to the level of Heists. Next time, focus on the stories alone, not on the sociological explanations. When I listen to anything related to Michael Cane, I expect good crime stories.

Skip last 2 chapters
Starts brilliantly, then becomes woke.....why? there is no point in cancelling Jesse James other then to project you own self righteousness. History cannot be cancelled
