Publisher's Summary

Scripture is filled with examples of men and women whom God used late in life, often with great impact—Noah, Abraham, Moses, Elizabeth, and Anna, to name a few. They were ordinary men and women who discovered that the latter years of life can be some of the most rewarding and fulfilling. “For them, growing older wasn’t something to be denied or dreaded;” says Billy Graham, “it was to be embraced as part of God’s plan for their lives.” Billy Graham’s life and ministry have been dedicated to the here and now but always with a happy-ever-after in view. In this moving narrative he reflects on his life and contemplates what God still has in store for him. He also shares how he has learned to deal with grief, uncertainty, and loss by focusing on the promises found in the Bible.

“Explore with me not only the realities of life as we grow older but also the hope and fulfillment and even joy that can be ours once we learn to look at these years from God’s point of view and discover His strength to sustain us every day.” —Billy Graham

I am nearing home.

This book was such a joy to hear on audio. I am 73 and have ALS so I'm praising God that I can know I am going home. In fact, not long ago when I just couldn't do something I'd always done, I started to cry and heard myself saying, "I want to go home." I got a little shook up as I was in my own house. Then a week or so later, when I found myself unable to do something else I found myself saying, "I want to go home." Yes, I was in my own home again but this time I realized that I was talking about my home in heaven. Blessings to all.

I love this old man

Would you listen to Nearing Home again? Why?

I would. I've listened twice already

What was one of the most memorable moments of Nearing Home?

Hard to say, but I liked how Billy Graham says that he had spent his life learning
how to die well, but no one had taught how to live as an old man

So many nuggets of encouragement and humorous wisdom

Have you listened to any of Robert Lake’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

My biggest reaction to this book was great relief
If a fella like Billy Graham can struggle with aging but keep his new weaknesses and frustrations in perspective, I can do it too.
He calls for older Christians to be examples of how to live well,, spiritually and emotionally right to the end
Our society needs the example

Any additional comments?

Glad to have an Elder to respect and trust

A simple but profound and moving look at aging -

Nearing Home is a deeply challenging yet touchingly heartfelt look at what it means to grow old. At age 92, the one and only Billy Graham tells what he has learned through his own physical decline, the death of his dearly beloved wife Ruth, the effect aging had on his ministry, and the hope of eternal life after the grave. He teaches how to grow old well, lays out common challenges, and gives practical suggestions and Biblical insights. He uses Story to flesh out his teaching, stories from his own life and ministry, stories of people who have written to him, stories of the famous and the seemingly insignificant. He deals with difficult questions people raise, and deals so succinctly - yet humbly and tenderly - with his challengers, with doubters. Through it all, he keeps as his authority and anchor the written Word of God, staying true to it, with clarity, honesty, and faith. He finishes it with a joyous examination of the Bible's revelations about heaven.

I loved the audio version so much that I ordered a hard copy to read and re-read and to mark up the comments at which I kept pressing "repeat" to hear again and again, in hopes of retaining it.

Practical, Spiritual lessons learned and shared.

Anything Billy Graham writes is based on Biblical principles and personal experience. Therefore, I would take it in and learn from his teachings. Billy is an honest writer and speaker.

What he writes about in this book, most people just don't want to talk about. But, as usual, Billy Graham meets issues head on. He has a gentle but strong way of presenting to the reader or listener.

I would read anything the man writes.

A great resource book that prepares you for heaven and how to finish strong and well

One feels particularly blessed to hear a world renowned Evangelist Billy Graham, literally from the 'waiting room' of heaven detailing for us the 'Now and Then' or how to prepare for heaven. This is a book hit all believers who like to 'finish well and strong'

Love Billy Graham - narrator detract from the book

Would you try another book from Billy Graham and/or Robert Lake?

I was unable to finish the Book. I just couldn't stand Robert Lakes voice. I also allowed my mother of 87 years to hear it, and she also didn't care for Robert Lakes voice.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I felt that Robert Lakes wanted to emulate Billy Graham with no success. He should stay with western books.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

yes

Any additional comments?

First time I purchased an Audible book of Billy Graham. I will go back to Books a Million and purchase the hard copy from now on.

Even Nearing Home, Billy's a great evangelist

The message for older folks is priceless! Young readers will find most of it boring....but old folks will say yes! yes!

Just what I needed

I was having trouble dealing with moving into this final phase of my life and feeling that I no longer had any purpose or any use. This book has helped tremendously and I no longer have those feelings. It was exactly what I needed to hear. Now I can face this stage in my life with the confidence that I have a purpose and still can be useful.

Godly Wisdom

An enjoyable book written with much wisdom and experience of the journey we take through life and the blessing it is to know Jesus and the guidance available to make life's decisions.
Read this before you reach the latter season, it is good preparation to help us grow older graciously.
