About this listen
Welcome to the first Haunted Guest House mystery - the getaway every reader can afford.
Newly divorced Alison Kerby wants a second chance for herself and her nine-year-old daughter. She's returned to her hometown on the Jersey Shore to transform a Victorian fixer-upper into a charming-and profitable guest house. One small problem: the house is haunted, and the two ghosts insist Alison must find out who killed them.

Amanda Ronconi narrates this humorous mystery with the vocal equivalent of an eye roll. While she doesn’t sound bored, she certainly sounds annoyed. But imagine her character’s predicament: She’s purchased an old crumbling Victorian on the Jersey shore, she’s fixing it up into a guesthouse, her precocious nine-year-old is hectoring, and now she finds out the Victorian is haunted!
Admittedly contrived, over-the-top, and including references that will be dated unto obscurity within the next decade or sooner, Night of the Living Deed seeks to achieve only one thing: Your temporary laughter and merriment at - or with - Ronconi’s eye-rolling voice.
Allison, just wants to get started with repairing her purchase and wants to make a good business to sustain her and her daughter, but firstly she's not ready to accept the fact that ghosts exist and moreover, that she can see them.
The ghosts need her help to resolve the mystery of who unalived them and when Allison realizes that one of the Ghost was the old house owner and she receives suspicious emails too, threatening her life, Allison starts looking into who might be behind it all.
This mystery had shades of suspense that were well done because we really can't pin point who might be the real culprit as there are multiple suspects and motives too, but I loved the fun aspect that the characters brought to the story.
Allison's daughter was cute but also the way she smartly answered at times, such a genius one, then there's Allison's mother and Wow, that woman is such a mystery herself in some ways but the way she's always calm and cares fiercely for Allison and her granddaughter had my heart.
Then there are the ghosts, Paul and Maxine; where Paul is soft spoken and well mannered and was a PI before, Maxine is snarky and has such an attitude and loves eye candies.
Also, Allison's friends Jeanie and her husband, Tony were such amazing friends to Allison.
I listened to the audiobook of this one and I have to say Amanda Ronconi is a narrator I look forward and enjoy her narration because she just brings this fun tone which also has this perfect blend of sass and humor in it, that brings the character's personality so perfectly out.
I'm so looking forward to diving into the next book of this series.
