About this listen

Divakaruni's descriptive, evocative writing makes you race through the book and then mourn its completion. For those who are fans of the author, this is a must-read. For those who have yet to discover her, this book is a must

People Troubled by the silence that surrounds her parents' death, seventeen-year old Korobi Roy clings to her only inheritance from them: the unfinished love note she found hidden in her mother's book of poetry. But when her grandfather dies, the young woman discovers a dark secret which will finally explain her past.

‘A coming of age novel in the best tradition, with a heroine who is both infuriating and endearing and most importantly, brave - Divakaruni's gift is story telling and she is generous with her gift'- Huffington Post.

The story is fantastic..it has an old world charm to it. The narration however is really bad. the worst that I have heard on audible. I have heard other titles from the same author, The last queen, forest of enchantments etc. and the narration added to the quality of those stories. This one failed miserably in narration.

Good story Bad Narration

The story is pleasant and the writing keeps one interested. The narrator though has a problem with pronouncing words, no concept of punctuation and casts a shadow over the telling

A pleasant story, true to the period or is set in.

Till now I had read only mythology and history-based work of Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni. This was different. One can call it a masala fiction which is a sweeping, suspenseful, atmospheric coming-of-age novel about a young woman who leaves India for America on a search that will transform her life. Of course in the end all has to end well, but the journey to this end is surely gripping. I also enjoyed the typical Bengali atmosphere well created in the novel and the narrator too has an accent in-line with the panorama (though I am not sure if she too is a Bengali for her surname "Dube" doesn't reflect that. Liked it.

I feel that their should have some pauses when story shifts from one person to another. Better would be a piece of music separate for each one indicating the specific one.
