About this listen
But then she meets Rana, a young lawyer with sparkling wit and a heart of gold. He helps set up the library and their days light up with playful banter and the many Rajesh Khanna movies they watch together.
When the Emergency is declared, Indu's life turns upside down. Rana finds himself in trouble, while Rajat decides it's time to visit India and settle down. As the Emergency pervades their lives, Indu must decide not only who but what kind of life she will choose.
Rana was very, very happy to help her out. His good nature was delighted by the essential service he performed for Indu. He loved her smooth-backed hair, her resolute and indomitable eyes, her composed bearing, and her dignity.
Rana was everywhere well spoken of. What a pleasure it was for Indu to talk with him! He was always straight with her in the business she did with him. When her project was successful, she looked up at him as though he had given her the world on a plate. His eyes twinkled gleefully. Rana drew a beautiful portrait of her smiling. Indu was assured of his sympathy for her.
Nonetheless, Rana was shocked to discover that Indu was already betrothed to Rajat. Henceforth, Indu became jealous of Rana’s admiration for Runjhun. This young woman’s words were rude. Her opinions were strong, as ladies' opinions generally are but, unfortunately, they were much more influenced by her own view of matters than by the legal bearing of them. Rana’s eyes sparkled with pleasure. He and Indu each kept their feelings, and waited till the events of the future decided between them.
Rana and his friend Fawad made outspoken opposition to Indira Gandhi's plans. Fawad was able to collect facts that they could act upon. Indu was the depositary of their extraordinary confidences. After the emergency was announced, in an act of heroic bravery, Rana nearly lost his own life in saving that of Fawad.
No one else cared if she reached her dream.
