Story
Hard times come for all in life, with no real explanation. When we walk through suffering, it has the potential to devastate and destroy, or to be the gateway to gratitude and joy. Elisabeth Elliot was no stranger to suffering. Her first husband, Jim, was murdered by the Waoroni people in Ecuador moments after he arrived in hopes of sharing the gospel. Her second husband was lost to cancer. Yet, it was in her deepest suffering that she learned the deepest lessons about God.

Story
Elisabeth Elliot was a young missionary in Ecuador when members of a violent Amazonian tribe savagely speared her husband, Jim, and his four colleagues. In this authorized biography, Ellen Vaughn uses Elisabeth’s private, unpublished journals, and candid interviews with her family and friends, to paint the adventures and misadventures God used to shape one of the most influential women in modern church history.

Publisher's Summary
We know we need to commit daily to Christ all matters of the heart and to wait upon Him. But it is often a painful, lonely process that takes longer than we want it to.
In her classic book Passion and Purity, Elisabeth Elliot candidly shares with you her love story with Jim Elliot as evidence that she has been there. Through letters, diary entries, and memories, she shares the temptations, difficulties, victories, and sacrifices of two young people whose commitment to Christ took priority over their love for each other. These revealing personal glimpses, combined with relevant biblical teaching, will remind you that only by putting your human passion and desire through His fire can God purify your love.
Passion and Purity includes honest, biblical direction on these important matters of the heart:
- Loving passionately while remaining sexually pure.
- Whether or not to marry, and who is the right one.
- The man's and woman's role in relationships.
- Putting God's desires ahead of personal desires.
- How far is too far, physically.
In a culture obsessed with dating, sex, and intimacy, the need for Elliot's freeing message is greater than ever.

Passionless reader for a passion filled book.
I have listened to hundreds of audiobooks over the last five years. Credibility. Boom.
I will start with the good. This is an amazing testament of true love. And true love waits. This book is riddled with the honest desires (sometimes to the point of discomfort) of Jim Elliot. Yet he speaks the full truth of what a man desires. Yes, even the intensely sexual desires that God has so beautifully given man. This is only one highlight of this wonderful tale of passion and purity.
However, I must insist that you do not purchase THIS version. The narrator might seem alright on the sample, but in short time, her utterly robotic-like voice rips out nearly all the feelings from the emotion-filled moments. The intonation was frightful and her emphasis were placed so incorrectly that it was Unnerving. Several times I was nearly led to believe that Siri was monologuing the otherwise gorgeous and powerfully romantic accounts of Elisabeth Elliot. I am keeping an eye out for the name Tanya Eby (the narrator) so that I NEVER have to listen to her again. I would have much rather read it by paper; and I HATE reading paperback. In fact, it was such a good book, I will purchase the paperback and read it again just so it isn't undeservingly butchered by Tanya Eby.
In conclusion: Excellent book, Beautiful story, AWFUL narration.

Amazing !!
This book really taught me to above all value and guard my purity and that God blesses those who wait on him for what he has for them. A man of God will value your purity and protect it at all costs. Don’t settle unless u know for sure that this is the man Jesus has for you.

I've read the paperback. Very realistic.
Please do not let the writer of the forward's recent tragic declarations keep you from hearing this book by Elizabeth Elliot. . .. The Passion and Purity by Elisabeth Elliott (sans forward) is a very realistic account of young Christian relationships.
It is a real-world account of the love of God and for Him as well as two very real young Christians living in a real-world.
. What happens when the choice requires waiting and/or possibly saying "no" to a non-sinful relationship for a specific calling to missions? How would you handle being told by your boyfriend he was thinking along those lines. I read the book and just got the audio. Buy it.

Was boring. I expected more.
I expected more because this book has a lot of good reviews. Towards, the end I found myself watching the clock to see how much more of it there was.
While there were some good nuggets of information, and it’s hard for me to leave a bad review on a Christian book, I found the main points the author was making as hard to understand some times. I’ve heard this narrator before and I liked her other work, but this time I didn’t find the narration that engaging.
I hate leaving bad reviews. As an aspiring author myself, I’d hate to receive bad reviews. The author does mean well, and again there were some good bits of information, but I still feel this was not great. I need to be honest. Going forward, I want to listen to less Christian dating and relationship books. I’m only going to listen to best-sellers with a lot of good reviews, or well-known authors.
