Quality history

Big fan of Goldsworthy from his works on Roman history. He doesn’t disappoint here giving a detailed, balanced and above all interesting account of the lives of Philip and Alexander.

The only thing I didn’t like was the poor quality of primary sources and conflicting secondary sources. Nothing the author can do about that, but it is a bit annoying to hear for the 50th time “Diodorus said this while Arrian said that and ultimately we can’t be sure”.
