Publisher's Summary
Hidden portals link Earth to numerous other planets. But why do they all contain human civilizations? And why does our nearest neighbor have its sights set on Earth?
Noah Harris and Ashley Flynn are field agents for a powerful organization tasked with protecting humanity from the misuse of game-changing technology. But when they discover hidden portals that link Earth to numerous planets, put in place ages earlier by transcendent beings, they are thrust into a maze of deception and intrigue they can't begin to understand....one that not only has them battling for their very lives, but that will decide the fate of worlds.
Because, inexplicably, each of the planets contain human civilizations, and the human rulers of our nearest portal neighbor–having already conquered their own world–have come up with a brilliant, twisted plan to conquer ours.
Only Noah and Ashley stand in their way...
From New York Times bestselling author Douglas E. Richards, whose books have sold over two million copies, Portals is a masterful near-future thriller packed with action, astonishing twists, and mind-blowing concepts.

Fantastic near future techno thriller
This is just an incredible scifi techno thriller I have listened to all of Douglas Richards books and I'm a big fan but this is probably Richards best book and that is saying a lot because he has some really great books. I've got to say the dialog in this book is a big improvent to past books, don't get me wrong Richards previous books the dialog is fine its just that here I'm this book Portals the author has cranked up the quality the dialog is witty and clever. I'm glad for Douglad Richards he always writes quality and this book is that and then some.
The narrator is on point here great voices and he puts in a lot of effort and you can tell he cares about this one.
Everything from the writing to the narration has come together perfectly, good luck trying to find a spot to turn it off for the night no this is one of those that will force you to keep reading just one more chapter and then one more chapter after that.

Sci Fi or foreshadowing?
I am a science teacher, and I eagerly look forward to each of the new stories. Portals really makes you think, while you are being entertained and thrilled.

So good!
This is yet another amazing story! It is a stand alone book - but really hoping it turns into the next series - that leverages many of the same tech concepts that his books are known for and they all are based on real science - not some way down the road concept but things that are being worked on today. Ok, the actual portal might be a few years off ;)
Looking forward to the next book, Mr. Douglas E. Richards is my favorite author!

Not Richard’s best but good story nonetheless. Made much worse by narrator.
McClain might benefit from skipping the coffee before recording. His speech cadence is way too fast. Properly paced, this book would be hours longer. Reducing speed by 10% helps.

Love the story but not the narration
I absolutely LOVE all of Douglas E Richards books but struggled with this narration. His female voices annoyed me for some reason. The story, itself, was amazing! So many points drive home how we are so much better off than we believe to be true, how we are so addicted to SO many things and how so many of those addictions could be our undoing.
Can't wait for the next book!

Top notch near future scifi
Loved this one from start to finish. Plausible near future tech, a well thought out and told strong, engaging characters.
This was my first Douglas E Richards book and now I'm excited to explore his other work.

Spectacular Richards Srikes Again
My only criticism was the narrator’s emotional reading of the character in places it didn’t seem appropriate. But overall it was believable and fun. The story seemed like Clive Cussler and Arthur C. Clarke got together with all the crafty Cussler twists in a Clarke-like Foundations setting. The end of story future projections made me think of Childhood’s End. I especially liked the ‘what if the Roman Empire never fell’ (akin to The Enigma Cube’s supposition of Hitler being assassinated). Most interesting was the analysis of addictions in our society and its comparisons under a totalitarian rule. Well done! I’m ready for the next book.

I tried
I have enjoyed other titles by Richards but the narrator is so bad he’s ruined this one for me. So much so that I will try to avoid any other audiobooks he may have butchered. 3 stars on story because after more than an hour there is still no “Portal.”

WOW!
This book was not what I expected, it was so much more! I loved the plot, the humor, the science, the possibilities, and the go go go of the story. It reminded me a little of "The Stainless Steel Rat" series by H. Harrison (one of my favorites). This is the first book by this author that I have experienced, but it won't be the last.

The concept was good. I wish I could say more.
The authors' research into science and, possible, emerging science was good, and the concept was interesting. The characters' dialogue and internal monologue were awful.
It was like an old superhero comic or cartoon, where characters over explains everything. Repeatedly. There are many better ways to convey a character's back story and abilities.

I enjoyed Portals SO MUCH!!
lWow you nailed the characters, the plot, the flow, the suspense, the tech... not to mention the incredibly relevant issues of tech addiction, news driven pessimism, humanity's tenacity, the reality of a one world govt AND then you come up with solutions my friend and I have discussed and wished for! I was constantly blown away and listened over and over to many chapters.
I always love the pop culture refs 😄
It's good to be the author ;)
