Publisher's Summary

Boston P.I. Spenser returns - heading west to the rich man's haven of Potshot, Arizona, a former mining town recently reborn as a paradise for Los Angeles millionaires looking for a place to escape the pressures of their high-flying lifestyles. When a band of modern-day mountain men, led by a charismatic individual known as The Preacher, takes over the town, even the local police are powerless to defend the residents in the face of the clever, dangerous gang. Spenser assembles a group of his own, including the redoubtable Hawk, to beat the gang at their own dangerous game and form the nucleus of a real police force to watch over the town when he's gone.

Parker's Best!

In my opinion this is the best Robert Parker book with his character the private eye Spenser. Great storyline and of course with Hawk by his side, the dialogue abounds with wit and satire.

POTSHOT is an easy 5 ☆☆☆☆☆

While I adore all of the Spencer Novels, some more than others, it is Joe Mantegna's narration that ultimately bring Spencer's wit and charm to life. I always enjoy the books that bring together Spencer's buddies, making this one pure gold!
It goes without saying that he gives that same
"humanity" to all of the characters, making his narration of the Robert B. Parker novels my favorite.
Maybe whitty, snarky comebacks come naturally to Mr. Mantegna? Whatever the source of his brilliance, color me in love!

Robert b Parker does it again

It's like the Magnificent Seven only tougher and much cooler. Spenser assembles the dream team from previous novels and they do what they do best.

All-time favorite story of the Spenser series

As a big fan of the author, particularly the Spenser stories, I love this entry. Throughout the series, Spenser encounters (and sometime works with) some interesting characters, though their appearances are usually limited to one or two per book. Potshot gathers a group of his past comrades as a hardened posse, headed by Spenser, to clean up a town in the spirit of a modern-day western. Spenser is the same wisecracking Boston toughie he's always been, but what makes this story stand out is how his cohorts interact with each other, often comically, to become brothers-in-arms. Definitely a fun read that I recommend highly.

Loved the writing and story line.

Only complaint I have is the use of God’s name in vain. Plenty of other words you could use.
Actually, my favorite author, William Kent Krueger, uses no curse words. His knowledge of words is so awesome, no need for cursing.
Cursing just distracts from the story.
