About this listen

The hilarious romantic comedy from NUMBER ONE BESTSELLING AUTHOR Sophie Kinsella

Lexi wakes up in a hospital bed after a car accident, thinking she's twenty-five with crooked teeth and a disastrous love life. But, to her disbelief, she learns it's actually three years later - she's a super-toned twenty-eight-year-old, her teeth are straight, she's the boss of her department - and she's married to a good-looking millionaire!

She can't believe her luck - especially when she sees her stunning new loft apartment. And she'll definitely have a fantastic marriage once she gets to know her husband again. He's drawn up a 'marriage manual', which should help.

But soon she realizes her perfect life isn't all it seems. All her old friends hate her. A rival is after her job. Then a disheveled, sexy guy turns up... and lands a new bombshell.

What the **** happened to her? Will she ever remember? And what will happen if she does?

This is my first Sophie Kinsella novel. She came on my radar after the news of her death in late 2025. I decided to give this author a try. I wasn't disappointed in this book.

Lexi Smart wakes up in a hospital after her car accident, with partial amnesia. She does not remember anything from the last 3 years in her life - but can recall everything clearly before that. This means that she does not even recognise her own husband! She is shocked that she has lost two sizes, has perfect teeth and skin, and wears designer clothes. She has also advanced up the ladder at her workplace in the last eighteen months. She is now the boss of her old friends, who no longer like her. She also discovers that she may have had a lover outside her marriage.

As she tries to recuperate from the accident, as well as her amnesia, with the help of her mother, sister and husband, she realises that she has quite the handicap at her workplace. There is not much chemistry with her drop-dead gorgeous husband, and skeletons from her past start tumbling out. Her rival at work is taking full advantage of this, and her credibility hits rock bottom. How will she sort out this mess, AND get her memory back? It seems almost impossible.

Yet the author has balanced this serious subject in a light, almost comic, vein. The narrator has done a good job of engaging the reader - I was thoroughly hooked by the ebb and flow of emotions.

Definitely worth reading / listening to.
