Publisher's Summary

A Space Wolves audio drama boxed set.

In the aftermath of the Thousand Sons' invasion of Fenris, Wolf Lord Ragnar Blackmane is thrown into danger as he hunts a dangerous beast in a quest that will decide the fate of the galaxy.

Listen to it because: Experience the latest chapter in the saga of Ragnar Blackmane in an all-action full-cast audio drama serial that pits the Young Wolf against one of the greatest – and most terrifying – warriors of the 41st Millennium.

The story: Glory returns to Fenris. Magnus the Red and his traitorous legion are defeated upon the icy cliffs of the Space Wolves’ home world, their hollow remains scattered into the darkest depths of the World Sea. Yet Ragnar Blackmane, the youngest Wolf Lord in his Chapter’s noble history, does not feel victorious. He is uneasy. Uncertain of his purpose and place in the great war for the Imperium.

Until a vision strikes him of a terrible beast, one greater than any he or his warriors have faced before. A monster that it is his destiny to confront. The young king throws himself into a quest to meet this fate, for no Space Wolf can turn from the call of his wyrd. Alongside a small band of Space Wolves, Ragnar Blackmane begins what is certain to be an odyssey for the ages, on which will hinge not only the fate of a single warrior, but of the entire galaxy.

Written by David Annandale. Performed by Tom Alexander, Charles Armstrong, Gareth Armstrong, Ian Brooker, Steve Conlin, Andrew Fettes, Jonathan Keeble, Colleen Prendergast, Jon Rand and Richard Reed.

You have got to be kidding me

So the voice actors are really good. The production quality is very solid. All in all, 2/5 stars is the best it could manage.

So from the author of the worst novel in the Horus Heresy series (The Damnation of Pythos) and the worst of the Primarchs series (Roboute Guilliman, Lord of Ultramar) comes the worst audio that I have listened to from anything Games Workshop related.

David Annandale has succeeded in compelling me AWAY from interest in his book, away from the most colorful and entertaining of the Adeptus Astartes (the Sons of Leman Russ), and making me stop the torture of having to endure Ragnar "Plot-Magic" Blackmane's idiot hero fabrication.

I love Black Library! I have and have read literally hundreds of their books.

The story doesn't advance logically, things happen, "just 'cause," the characters are magically said to improve and develop as if through sorcery or, worse yet, just because the author said do.

I cannot finish this farse of a story or the coronation of the "Young King" when he is s knuckle dragging moron of a character.

David Annandale, stop ruining the 6th legion.

To short

Great start and build up. But falls short when they hurry thrue the story in just 6 hours.
What could have been was cut short.

Log time fan dissatisfied

This could have been awesome! But it just left so much to be desired. GW has seemed to take a downward slope in the quality of their story. They crank crap out in hope to sell more stuff instead of giving the fans something great...disappointing.

I love audio dramas. This one was Awesome!

I love audio dramas even better than standard audio books. This one was like the others. An audio show\ movie. a exciting story presented through subzero performances. And I lovedvtge irks representation and his it was carried out by the performers.

An absolute adventure from start to finish

Every voice actor commits to their lines, and breath life into these characters. Told from the standpoint of a story- teller's recollection, it holds your as you are taken through parts of the Warhammer 40000 universe.

Phenomenal!!!

Amazing voice acting and a sound track I really enjoyed how all named characters had their on voice actor. Would recommend tho shorter than most other 40K audio books its made up for with the pure immersion that you get from the sound track and voice actors.

Really Games Workshop.

I will try not to spoil the story for those who haven't listened to it yet, but despite this being a truly great story they will have to work hard to appease people due to the ending of this.

For all wolf fans and orkameadies clan members this is a must listen

I'm speechless.. it is just, absolutely amazing!

WOW! What a truly epic audio drama. I listened to it as I painted and felt like I was right there in the story with the characters. The scenes, sound effects, dialogue and overall story were just something out of a triple A movie. Whether or not you're a fan of Space Wolves, the Imperium or even Warhammer itself... this is a MUST listen. I much look forward to future audio book releases akin to this. 10/10, kudos Black Library and all who were involved in this creation.

Pros:
EPIC - an storyline of epic proportions, I truly felt like I was there with the Norse/Viking inspired futuristic warriors that the Space Wolves are.
Brilliant Narration - every single voice actor in this drama was fantastic, even those that had only minor parts added so much depth and realism to the story. I can still hear their words as I look back on it now. Absolutely superb!
Cons:
Absolutely none. I could say that the story is too short though in honesty, I think that it is just the right amount. If the story had gone on for any longer it would have maybe made it feel too long and drawn out. This was just the right length to listen to. Perfect for an afternoon of painting.

An actual audio drama!

I’m not accustomed to Black Library producing full-blown audio dramas but this was superbly written and performed by all involved - I hope there’ll be more in the future!

Even if you’re not the biggest fan of the Space Wolves I would still recommend this as it’s a solid tale and, as I’ve already mentioned, it’s a chance to hear a different and much appreciated approach.

A saga worthy of Valhalla

The black library is full of great stories and saga of the beast is one such.
The audio drama style is really engaging with fantastic performances all round.
If you are looking for a more bite sized 40K story to enjoy then look no further, obviously the main focus here is on the space wolves but there are some stand out moments featuring the second sons and the orcs too.

Truly great audiobook

New to audiobooks having read some warhammer books in the past I gave this a go as my first audiobook and have to say I was blown away, the story itself is fantastic but the way it has been enhanced via audiobook is amazing, extremely immersive and engaging I really hope if anyone’s looking through reviews for their next read I highly recommend this title

A space vikings saga.

This was Amazing. I have zero complaints. All of the narrators/voice actors performed with excellence. You could feel their joy and immersion, acting out their roles. The background sound team deserves a shout out too. Best audiobook sounds i've listened to so far. *Spoiler warning* I did not like that they killed of ghazkull. This is my one complaint tho. Too good a character to whack like this.

Great performance, predictable story.

If you own an arty t-shirt with a wolf on it, have a beard and refer to the Space Wolves as The Rout you'll probably love this over the top book of Bolter Porn.

If howling at the moon doesnt get you rock hard and you were hoping for an interesting Imperium vs Xenos story, look elsewhere. The performance and sound effect audios are great, though.

So much potential ...... Bugger

The whole “book” is more of an Audio Drama. In itself this is not a bad thing. The performances of the actor/narrator (s) are very, very good.

Where it’s really let down is the lack of narrative or descriptions leaving one moment to blend into the next without adequate warning. It makes the story feel unfinished and incomplete and at times nonsensical. I found this incredibly frustrating.

Utterly Amazing

A beautiful rendition of an amazing book. I have heard Black Library audio books in the past. Many many times. But this story was just enrapturing. Not as long as i wish it was, only being 4 hours, and i wish it had of covered things that happened after (stuff in the lore.) but the production, telling and voice acting were immaculate, emersive and thrilling. really got the emotion right.

Hail to the Young King!

A spectacular Audio Drama, in this Games Workshop has delivered! I only wish there were more. Captures the Spirit of the Young King perfectly, his impetuousness in the face of authority, his fervour in the face of battle. I really do hope that we see more of this Saga, for there is much more that need be told. However, be warned: this is not the WAAAAAAGH!!! of Ghazgkull Mag Uruk Thraka, this is The Saga of the Young King!
Absolutely loved it, and look forward to listening to it again.

Good story but distracting elements

The background sounds over played the story at times and were very distracting. Length was made longer by unneeded music - giving a fake book length. Should have had an epilogue for after the fight and were both are now so it better linked to the models.
