Publisher's Summary

He appears out of nowhere in a sleepy little neighbourhood in suburban Kerala. He calls himself Shunya, the zero. Who is he? A lunatic? A dark magician? A fraud? Or an avadhuta, an enlightened soul?

Saami, as they call him, settles into a small cottage in the backyard of the local toddy shop. Here he spins parables, blesses, curses, drinks endless glasses of black tea and lives in total freedom. On rare occasions, he plays soul-stirring melodies on his old bamboo-reed flute.

Then, just as mysteriously as he arrived, Shunya vanishes, setting the path for a new avadhuta, a new era.

This first novel by Sri M is a meditation on the void which collapses the wall between reality and make-believe, the limited and the infinite. With its spare storytelling and profound wisdom, it leads us into the realm of ‘shunya’, the nothingness of profound and lasting peace, the beginning and end of all things.

loved it

what is normal and what's not? just observe evening neutrally! I loved the story, how each character makes sense of what's going on around them...

Avadhootha’s life is a fiction

It’s easy to explain miracles in a fiction. These I am sure are experienced daily in lives of Avadhootha’s. SriM tried to break all social norms, rituals etc and showed how life can be simpler. A must read for anyone who want to understand what lies beyond life and death and can either believe it or not believe it.

Shunya by Sri M

The story is captivating but I didn’t like some aspects of the story
The narrator did an excellent job but could have avoided speaking in keralite voice or lady voices. Of course in some places the change in Cali was modulation did help
Overall a good effort by narrator
The author gave insight in to tantric practices and strange yogis of india

Deja Vu!

A wonderful book. Many parts remind one of stories of various saints, especially from the life of the author.

Excellent story

I listened this book after reading the autobiography of Sri M. In this story, I visualised the shadow of many incidents mentioned in the autobiography. Enjoyed and some parts evoked deep thoughts. Thanks.

great read

the chapters are interesting, looks like just one person has voiced most of the characters by modulating the tone. story line would make you come back to it if not finished in one go.

My personal opinion<br />

Loved the theme
Narrator is not impressive for those whose mother tongue is Malayalam.
However, enjoyed listening.

Narrated impeccably. Only for believers..

With seemless voice modulation, the book was narrated beautifully. The story offers so much to learn and experience, if you believe in the mystical powers. I however am neutral and considered it mostly as pure fiction. I found few things a little over the top. But enjoyed the book overall.
