Publisher's Summary

He appears out of nowhere in a sleepy little neighbourhood in suburban Kerala. He calls himself Shunya, the zero. Who is he? A lunatic? A dark magician? A fraud? Or an avadhuta, an enlightened soul?

Saami, as they call him, settles into a small cottage in the backyard of the local toddy shop. Here he spins parables, blesses, curses, drinks endless glasses of black tea and lives in total freedom. On rare occasions, he plays soul-stirring melodies on his old bamboo-reed flute.

Then, just as mysteriously as he arrived, Shunya vanishes, setting the path for a new avadhuta, a new era.

This first novel by Sri M is a meditation on the void which collapses the wall between reality and make-believe, the limited and the infinite. With its spare storytelling and profound wisdom, it leads us into the realm of ‘shunya’, the nothingness of profound and lasting peace, the beginning and end of all things.

Avadhootha’s life is a fiction

It’s easy to explain miracles in a fiction. These I am sure are experienced daily in lives of Avadhootha’s. SriM tried to break all social norms, rituals etc and showed how life can be simpler. A must read for anyone who want to understand what lies beyond life and death and can either believe it or not believe it.

Shunya by Sri M

The story is captivating but I didn’t like some aspects of the story
The narrator did an excellent job but could have avoided speaking in keralite voice or lady voices. Of course in some places the change in Cali was modulation did help
Overall a good effort by narrator
The author gave insight in to tantric practices and strange yogis of india

Deja Vu!

A wonderful book. Many parts remind one of stories of various saints, especially from the life of the author.

Good book. Wonderful narration !

The book was engaging. Even my kids loved hearing the same..one reason being the narration by Dhruv Modi ! His native accent is the best i've heard on Audible. Good books are spoilt by bad narration..luckily not the case here. Try it...the storyline is engaging as well.

Deeply Insightful

True spirituality has and will always challenge the traditional pillars and posts set up religion. Therefore, for the more conservative, to appreciate this book, they might require to first loosen up their traditional thoughts before taking this book up to read. A good prelude would be to first digest a book by the same author, titled,"Apprenticed to a Himalayan Master", a Yogis biography.
The narrator has done a fantastic job by modulating his voice to suit the protagonists. However, having septate narrators for different characters would have made it more realistic.

An incomprehensible Thing

The story is interesting and shares us the idea that there are something which cannot be easily comprehensible for us. But with specific methods and Guru we can. Also as I already listened Sri M autobiography , some(many) of the instances in this book resembles that...
