Another good yarn

Although Janine Birkett is an excellent overall narrator she cannot do other voices 'for love nor money' and should stop attempting anyone other than Vera Stanhope. However Cleves' stories are always intriguing enough for me to put up with peculiar narration and I enjoyed this one too.

loved the story hated the narrator

the accents were excruciating and I nearly stopped listening several times. not sure I can put myself thru that again even for a good story.

Love Vera, but not my favourite Vera book

This is my fifth Vera book – read slightly out of order and over a couple of years, I did #1, 2 & 3 last year, then the latest #10 Rising Tide just before this (plus all Perez and Venn). Having just finished, this was my least favourite of all. Engaging and entertaining as usual, but not satisfied at the end. Can't say more without spoilers, but suffice to say it feels like about an hour is spent at the end explaining who, why and how.

enjoyed this story. narrator very good.

there are complaints from previous reviewers about the narration and accent. it is a story and the narrator has to cover all basis. not all audio narrators suit everyone in which case buy the book and read it yourself. I enjoyed the storyline and the narrator.

Always a great story from Ann Cleeves

Love the Vera series. Would love even more if it was narrated by the TV cast of the series.

Had me hooked

First Ann Cleeves book I have listened to. I enjoyed the TV series so thought I would give this a try. The story was captivating and I intended to only listen to it when I was traveling but instead listened at every available opportunity. Will look forward to my next Ann Cleeves book.

So much better than tv adaptation!

l loved listening to this story! It was a little confusing at times as I had watched the TV program which varied quite a bit from the original. This was so much better!
The characters were so well developed, the plot had many twists & turns, and the outcome satisfying. Vera's attitude and rueful sense of humour are enjoyable and I enjoy hearing her thought processes, which of course we are not privy to on TV.
LOVED IT!!

Tried hard to finish it!

I tried very hard to finish this book, however found the over acting of the narrator for different characters extremely annoying... I gave up trying to finish and purchased another book.

Silent voices

I love Ann Cleeves and her books. Vera is terrific such a cranky woman with a lot of problems but solves crimes well.
The narrator Janine Burkett was really good. Changing her voice to fit with all characters.
Very enjoyable indeed.
