Publisher's Summary

Dear A., I am writing to express my gratitude for your gift. There are no sufficient words, but please accept my sincerest thank you. Yours, R.

She writes me back. I didn't expect that. She tells me she's a lover of chicken pizza and video games, a hot sorority girl with the nickname Sloth. She wants to know something about me in return. She says I owe her. This is how she saves my life. She doesn't even know it.

The anonymity is good. She doesn't need to know me, but I need her kindness. We both live our lives: a letter here, a postcard there. For three years, I escape my demons. Then, one day, I'm pulled back in. I resign myself to what I know is coming, until the girl I'm spanking gives her safe word: sloth. And then the lie I'm living starts to unravel.

Maybe it's Just Me

I'm really at a list for words. Did I just listen to/read the same book as the other reviewers?! After reading the blurb and the reviews from other listeners, I fully expected to be blown off my feet.

Nope. Did not happen.

The performance was okay. The man was "eh" but the female's narration irked my nerves at times. It's hard to truly blame her as most of the problem was with the writing.

The writing. This book was too long and for nothing. Half of the book could have been eliminated as it served absolutely no purpose to the plot. The idea of the book was good it just included a lot of unnecessary pages. I ended up skipping through some chapters for the first 3/4 of the book in an attempt to reach the end. There were a lot of plot holes as well. I just couldn't get with this book. Do yourself a favor and save yourself the credit. If you have Amazon Unlimited (the book is available for free if you have it) then by all means. Otherwise, save your hard earned money.

An emotionally gripping tale!

Sweet mother of all that's holy!!! This was an absolutely amazing book. It will keep you guessing the whole time. Kellan and Cleo's story is a beautiful, heartbreaking, sexy ride! I don't want to spoil anything so I will just say that Sloth is an absolute MUST READ and Sweet baby Jesus - KELLAN!!!

Unexpected, Turbulent, Cathartic

Be patient with the slow setup and confusion at the beginning of this book. It plods through a series of pen pal letters before getting to the live action. Trust that this storytelling device eventually pays off in a huge way. The narrators are perfect and made the story even better. There’s so much depth in this book, and I can’t recommend it enough! I’m still dabbing my tears and nursing an aching heart.

A great find

I only write reviews when I’m truly surprised. This is a beautiful, erotic story. The best of both. I can’t believe it comes with the romance package. Thank you, Ella. You give eroticism a real home.

I would never have....

Had I known what this book was about, I would never have had the emotional strength to even start it. I'm coming up on my 100 book mark with audible and I can say I've never been moved as much to write a review as I have today. The realism of the secret Kellan was keeping, and the subsequent things he and Cleo went through together, is very hard to listen to but it was still worth it. This book is making me have to take a book break for a few days. It's one of those stories to put you in a mood but also makes you happy when you put it down and realize your partner, friends, and family are happy and healthy. But the realism, that's what gets you right in the heart. Great book, wonderful narrators. I loved it but I don't think I can ever listen again.

What was that

After reading the reviews, I thought wow this will be a great book. Not so much, It was way too long and I couldn't finish the book. I skipped most of the chapter, it was too difficult to listen to. Please save your credit, its definitely NOT worth it.

Ella fucking James 💧 ♥️

You cannot really give a synopsis of this book because the secrets are so integral to the experience. I can tell you this book is sexy and gritty and at times far too real. This story has 3 parts, part one is a sexy mystery with some dark undertones and hints to the secrets that just make no sense. Part two is hot hot hot BDSM, tantalizing character development and endless questions and answers. Part three has reality smashing down (the type of reality that is most often absent from romance) and the answers to all the mysteries of the story. I can tell you I was crying and yelling “why Ella why would you do this to me” but by then last scene I knew why. You will love this book, it will break your heart. Most of the best parts of life involve both heartache and love and this story is no exception. However I need a break after this story, I will listen to the next book in this series later when my mind and heart are prepared. Thank you for this book and that you for KELLAN!!

Story was ok

I read and listen to this book at the same time and they are missing words, paragraphs and even pages, I didn’t like that

The male narrator has a nice voice but I couldn’t stand they way he would breath in after a few words .. he was over try to be dramatic, that drove me crazy

The female narrator sounds a bit to old to be Cleo

Zero stars!!

This is the most asinine attempt at writing I've seen in awhile. I couldn’t get past ch 8. There is absolutely no story here, it's a convoluted disaster, YA- which is NOT disclosed as such, teen behavior, crass raunchy sex TRYING to pass off as BDSM. I really HATE when author's don't understand BDSM, yet write about it!! NO likeable characters, especially Cleo! she's a spoiled whiney drug dealing apportunistic little girl. I don't understand how this got even ONE positive review! I don't recommend this book and won't be giving the author a 2nd try.

Cannot find adequate words...

This book is a MUST READ... it really deserves to be made into a movie... parts are far more spicy than 50 Shades... and the story takes you on an emotional roller coaster ride.. 16+ hour Audible may sound long but as it ended I still wanted so much more.

Brilliant book

Nelson Hobbs and Shirl Rae narrated this book brilliantly. This was the first book I read by Ella James and I couldn’t put it down. I have read several of her other books but none of them have been as good as this one.
