Another great adventure

A real cracker; twists that caught me out.
I like his books from the outset, but this one is a snorter. As much as I love all that good character development stuff, I need a tale to have the right mix of detail and pace - this one really hit the mark. plus a few times just as I slipped into a comfortable spot and thought I knew where we'd be going, I got caught by a clever twist and I was fully engaged again. worth every dollar and minute. I just deeply wish I could go toe to toe with Jackson Lamb and smack his smirk off of his face!

Another scorcher
I simply cannot get enough of this series. I'm horrified that I'm going to have to wait until February for the next instalment. What is it with writers? Don't they understand the contemporary need for instant gratification? Pshaw!
This next step, or should I say stumble, along the path with the slow horses does so at a whip-crack pace. I like the premise of this story too. Yes, it's sometimes far fetched and, as the series has gone on, the characters seem less bungling and more Bond but by now we're on their side anyway and want to see them perk up a bit and not get taken out by slickly professional assassins.
Sean Barrett is certainly now the voice of the hero Lamb and turns in another great performance.
My only complaint is the continual use of Americanisms that we British have to stomach: 'hood' 'cops' and I bet the 'BuzzLightyear' quip was a substitution for the colonials - Lamb wouldn't have a clue about 'Toy Story'. It's a British author give us the British publication for god's sake. However, I'm not going to penalise the author or narrator for an annoying corporate decision - only, listener be warned!

Excellent as always
Love the characters. Slough House is a wonderful invention, and is packed with terrific characters you just want to follow and observe. And I love the trade craft.
A great thriller, like all in this series. Now I just have to wait for the next one.

The Slow Horses return!
Another superb tale of the sidelined spooks and their acerbic boss, Jackson Lamb, one of the best characters of recent years. Excellent narration as usual.

A joy to listen to
Characters, plot, prose, all excellent. Sean Barrett does his usual outstanding job. Like the rest of this series, a real treat. One sly phrase at least made me laugh aloud. I do hope there will be more of the series.

Utterly brilliant. Fabulous. Gosh.
I have totally fallen for the 'slough house' series and this one is just as good as the earlier novels. These are brilliantly crafted, witty, sardonic thrillers which take john le carre's precision in observation, plot and character and add some very familiar 21st century flaws, some inter-departmental politics and bureaucracy, and a good dose of wit (scattered with the occasional juvenilia).
Mick Herron, you are a genius. I have nearly 400 audible titles and have posted a review for a handful (of the wonderful or awful). So I hope that statistic gives some perspective to my enthusiasm for the Slough House series. Voiced by the outstanding Sean Barrett, what is not to like??

Another great book in the series
If you could sum up Spook Street in three words, what would they be?
Imaginative, tense, funny
What did you like best about this story?
It built most successfully on the themes and genre of the previous books in the excellent series.
What about Seán Barrett’s performance did you like?
He is always reliably good.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Not particularly because it is fine to come back to it during car journeys. But it certainly never flags and one could listen in one go in the right circumstances.
Any additional comments?
Hoping for another in the series.

so pertinent
Excellent as always. Sean Barrett is the perfect reader for the dry humour of the story about the dregs of the not so secret services. The creaking of wheels within wheels that turn in response to another atrocity hits London...another one of the many that have happened in London through the years.
When River's grandfather, "The O.B.", is threatened the danger is brought to Slough House itself and mayhem ensures.
If you liked the other books in this series and the ghoulish humour does not offend you this is another winner.

Great series - great narrator
This series continues to engage. It’s well written, the plots are always intriguing and the development of the characters is complex, but believable, led by the unique, Jackson Lamb. The occasional laugh out loud moment at the comments and management style of Lamb keeps the story moving. An excellent series.

Brilliant - buy it now!
I’ve read one other in the Slow Horses series and the reviews of this one made me fast forward to it and I’m glad I did. Very well written and Sean Barrett does a sensational job of narration. One of the best - really brought the words to life and does justice to the writing.
Good storyline and I’m literally online now ten minutes after finishing it to buy the next one!

Laconic prose brings the binds of toil to life
Mick Herron's series is a fine read/listen for those who enjoy the illumination of the culpable character - fallen along the way into a sort of lost and found, stumbling toward deliverance of past wrongs and failings through good deeds, or at least those that will avoid iniquity.
All through a lens of acerbic wit that, at least to this Londoner, sound as close to home as Orwell and Greene, the writers as well as the poncey grocers.
Seán Barrett is consistently ace.

Grimy, Grim and Great!
Herron draws you in to this sad bunch of lovers led by the repulsive-but-brilliant central character,Lamb.
wonderful black humour and unexpected twists
Rarely have I enjoyed any series as much.
Highly recommended.
