Emily St. John Mandel was born in Canada and studied dance at The School of Toronto Dance Theatre. She is the author of the novels Last Night in Montreal, The Singer's Gun, The Lola Quartet, and Station Eleven and is a staff writer for The Millions. She is married and lives in New York.The Travelling Symphony, a group of musicians and actors, wander what remains of Planet Earth after a global pandemic has decimated the population, performing musical acts and Shakespearean skits for pockets of survivors who have managed to rebuild. Life has slowly settled into some semblance of normalcy — but with a new danger rising, any illusion of safety is soon shattered.
Told through the voice of multiple characters (each performed with distinction by narrator Jack Hawkins), Station Eleven is a twisting novel that jumps back and forth from the early days of the outbreak to the crumbled aftermath. It’s a stark, brilliantly crafted post-apocalyptic tale that is both adored by fans and celebrated by critics, evidenced by its 2015 Arthur C. Clarke Award win.

A great listen!
This book falls into theatre-fiction genre.
I loved the narration. All the modulations, etc. Wow. Great work.

Sci fi set 20 years after Pandemic
the story is set in a world where a COVID like flu wipes 99% of population. 20 years later, the world looks very different, art looks very different. The story is beautifully weaved, characters connected with each other in a way they don't know themselves. Loved the book, will definitely recommend. There is also a TV series by same name (found out later after I finished the book) but can't watch that as it's not available in India yet.

Survival is Insufficient
An amazing story , well narrated and must read for people into dystopia world. A book with a difference.

Was a good listen overall
The story began on a very intriguing note and was more relatable because of the whole Covid situation we are in today. But in between somewhere I lost interest because the backstory to all the characters that was being told was a bit too much. The story moved away from the pandemic totally and was about the past and the characters only. that was very disappointing. My expectations weren't met totally.

A strange, addictive novel
One could call it science fiction, since it is based on a future pandemic event. As science fiction goes, though, its only a middling one with lots of plot holes and middling complexity in the science itself. As a novel with memorable characters and complex interactions between them, its excellent. The novel flits between the ordinary and the futuristic - focusing on how people react rather than on the situation itself - and this makes for compulsive listening.
