- Length: 2 hrs and 44 mins
- Categories: Parenting & Relationships, Self-Help
Publisher's Summary
As children, we dreamt of the wonderful things we were going to do when we were grown-ups.
Now that we’re grown-ups, why aren’t we out there, living the lives of our dreams?
This fun and original guide will teach you how to bypass your self-doubt and take ACTION.
Using her experience as a storyteller, broadcaster, and (undercover) life-coach, Clare Bowditch collaborates with neuroscientist Dr Charlotte Keating to detail useful Cognitive Behavioural Therapy concepts that will help you tame your inner critic. With practical steps and Clare’s trademark humour and intimate storytelling style, Tame Your Inner Critic will teach you the skills to retrain your brain and achieve your big, fat dreams.
Clare Bowditch is an ARIA award-winning musician, a Logie award-nominated actor, and has been named Rolling Stone Woman of the Year for her contribution to culture. In 2019 Clare Bowditch released her debut best-selling memoir, Your Own Kind of Girl, which was short-listed for Australian Audiobook of the Year, and won an ABIA for Best New Australian Writer. In 2010, Clare overcame her Gen-Xer cynicism and trained to become a life coach with a specialty in teaching big-hearted humans how to overcome their self-doubt. Since then she’s had the pleasure of sharing speaking bills with the likes of Brené Brown and Marianne Williamson, where she is best known for teaching large audiences to overcome their collective terror of public singing, and sing anyway, in three part harmony, in fifteen minutes or less.

Stick with it - you may at first doubt it, but this is essential listening
One one level lighthearted, corny and possibly a touch patronising but at the same time surprisingly effective, easily digestible and practical tips to change your outlook. Essential listening for good mental health.

A curious introduction to extreme self-doubt
I started listening to this audiobook because of friend who has a very loud inner critic and I wanted to help him out. I learnt this is more common than I knew and some techniques to work with. The author is funny, although it took me a couple of minutes to get used to her style, and her voice is full of happiness and understanding. The first 3 chapters are the strongest, but the whole series has been enlightening.

I laughed, teared up, loved it
I loved the interactive, conversational nature of the episodes. Some pretty intense emotional stuff but made enjoyable with the fun music. I hope there's another series in the making 😁

Heartily Recommended
I loved this. I found the radio DJ humour undermined the rest of the content which is a shame because Clare is genuinely funny otherwise. I still heartily recommend this series 😁

Absolutely loved it!
This was a very entertaining, informative and useful series. The format is fun and easy to follow. The chatty style and Clare's comforting voice explaining the techniques from a very personal point of view, coupled with the brilliant 'brain science' explanations, make it a very worthwhile listen.

Useful tools, easily transferable.
Get past the slightly manic intro section, and you’re in safe hands.
A sage lady who has struggled and achieved.
Well done and thank you

Interesting, funny and informative
I highly recommend a listen! This was well-structured, easy to follow and practical. Clare's personal stories were relatable and the scientific explanations interesting. The fact that it was also funny meant that it was enjoyable to listen to. Very helpful!

Just what I needed to hear
In true Clare Bowditch style TYIC is caring, honest, and like a big hug. Clare shares her learned & first hand experiences of the inner critic which are so relatable. Her tips along with the advice of Dr Charlotte are doable and simple ways of taming those negative thoughts. The addition of ‘Big Guy’s’ awesome voiceover work, Clare’s music and the jingles make this a fun yet beautiful way of learning to flip that voice off out of your head. Just what I needed in this time of COVID & working towards my goals.

So good
I read Clare Bowditch’s memoir, when it came out, and discovered a friend. Now this audio book, broken into five lessons, expands on the technique Clare shared in her very readable memoir. I would like everyone to listen to this especially now. Anxiety, stress, fears of all kinds are abounding during C19. This will help. Practical help in a relaxed fun format. Thank you Clare and team.

Just wonderful!
I’ve never ‘read’ a self help book before but this one really appealed to me. I love how open and honest Clare is in her approach and appreciated the humour and musical interludes. If you enjoyed this I’d suggest you take the time to ‘read’ Your Own Kind Of Girl, such a beautiful memoir bu such a beautiful and talented human.

too much noise
The teachings are nice but i didn't like how they presented them. Too much sound effects making noise and too chatty.
