About this listen

This treasury of essential Buddhist writings draws from the most popular Indian, Tibetan, Chinese, and Japanese sources. Among the selections are some of the earliest recorded sayings of the Buddha on the practice of freedom, passages from later Indian scriptures on the perfection of wisdom, verses from Tibetan masters on the enlightened mind, and songs in praise of meditation by Zen teachers. The audiobook also includes traditional instruction on how to practice sitting meditation, cultivate calm awareness, and live with compassion. Jack Kornfield, one of the most respected American Buddhist teachers, has compiled these teachings to impart the essence and inspiration of Buddhism to listeners of all spiritual traditions.

A Dedication and Editor’s Preface are included, narrated by Jack Kornfield.

It's a good short, to the point introduction to Buddhism. I enjoyed listening to it.

Short but good

Full of wisdom, more in depth than in length, some chapters requires more in detail practices, Read it after reading different boons on Buddha's teachings as this one majorly holds the summary of different teachings

Good book

This is essentially a collection of Buddhist writing which needs focus to grasp, since they are food for thought and one needs to process the narration, I usually listen at 1.5x but this book even at 0.75x found difficult to keep up with pace. Regardless, the writings are gem and stimulates our mind and serves its purpose.

Too quick excerpts

Truth is beyond words...... narration is excellent
Loved it. One should listen it 🙏

Shunnya....... Ordinary mind is the way...........

It's only a compilation of texts by various authors and does not give a deep rooted meaning of Buddha's teachings nor does it teach how to practice his teachings and what to learn from them. That's why I stopped listening before I could complete the first 30 minutes.

Not good
