Publisher's Summary

In the 1920s, Alfred Hitchcock, the son of a shopkeeper, embarked on a career in the fledgling movie industry, and things were never the same again. From silence to sound, from monochrome to colour, from cinema to television, no other film director would stake such a large claim to entertainment in the twentieth century.

In this special series of episodes, hear all about Hitchcock's beginnings, his triumphs and failures, the battles that raged behind the scenes, the people that helped him become the most iconic director of all time, and the darkness inside him that emerged from time to time to cause damage to himself and to those closest to him....

An Extremely Well Directed & Narrated Story

This is a great show about The great man, the pace, the music, the narration and direction is nothing but perfect. The only drawback that I can find are the side stories about few other people. sometimes they're too long. But everything else is awesome. if you love movies, you'll love this.
if you remove the clippings from movies, interviews etc, this is a perfect example of an audiobook. A good story, Well narrated, supported by good music at just the right amplitude.

An excellent addition to the series

Another interesting listen in the consistently entertaining 'The Secret History of Hollywood' series. Can we be greedy and ask for an audiobook on Charlie Chaplin?

What a cracker

I have only just discovered Adam Roche and his titles (I have them all) I am completely captivated by his delivery and the quality and passion, which is evident by the quality of his narration. He comes across as devoted to his subject and the content detail to all the stories is fantastic. More titles please, I could listen to you all day long.

Highly recommend for any cinema fan not just fans of Alfred.

I thought I knew Alfred Hitchcock, being a massive fan I thought I knew it all and this would be a crash course. But this is a beautifully put together warts and all look at the man himself
Beyond his body work or work and beyond all the stories and rumours that circulate so often. It’s also amazing how Adam Roche’s voice can take me from laughing to bawling like a fully grown man baby in a matter of seconds.

Many a tear shed by me

I was not sure about listening to this but I was hooked from the start. I found it very informative not just about Hitch but lots of other actors. I really didn't want it to end . So glad I decided to listen ,certain parts of it had me crying. Well done to all involved in the making of this. More please

Amazing Story

This is so well written and narrated it draws you in and its enthralling presentation keeps you going back till the end. What an amazing life he had and how he shaped the way movies and TV shows were made changed for ever.

Absolutely Fascinating!

A brilliant and fascinating look into the life of Alfred Hitchcock. I knew very little about this director except his more famous works and it's incredibly to see what he did with his life and how he was at the birth of almost all of cinema's greatest achievements, along with his wife Alma. Truly remarkable man

The Adventures of Alfred Hitchcock is outstanding.

I was transfixed with this podcast from the beginning to the end. all 29 episodes where full of such an interesting and intimate knowledge of the Hitchcocks.
I was never aware of what a great director he was. and what a wonderful support his dear wife was to him all through his life, without her he would never have risen to the heights as a movie director that he did.
This podcast has inspired me to delve deeper not only into his movies and his life, but into others.
I'll never think of the Hitchcocks as I did before.
I recommend this podcast without hesitation. and I found the narration as first class.

Great Podcast

Well researched, very interesting to listen to. And it's a sad story, really. Shows Alfred, warts and all, and his wife is to be commended for staying with him. It's a great listen, well worth the effort.

Flawless, beautifully told

What an absolutely incredible journey through the life and career of the most groundbreaking film makers ever!
I am a huge Hitchcock fan so was very excited to listen to this book. The pacing was perfect, as was the narration. The insite into this great man's life is wonderfully portrayed. Is it possible to give more than 5 stars? I'm at a loss for words, just truly amazing!

The story behind the legend.

Not a simple tale of one man's life and his hollywood success. This is a more nuanced tale of relationships. You do not need to know any of his movies or TV shows to enjoy this beautiful story. I cried twice in public, once in the supermarket and once in the gym, and laughed more than that.

Narrator was superb and I also enjoyed the addition of hearing the people in their own words.

Pet hate...

When orators start a sentence strong, to then reduce in volume towards the end for some odd effect - annoying.

Brilliant with only one flaw.

Brilliant! One of the best things I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying in ages. Extremely well written and the narration is wonderful.

I wasn’t even interested in Alfred Hitchcock when I started to listen. Now I want to see all his movies. This is an exciting story that draws you into an entirely different world.

Is it perfect? No, unfortunately the sound mixing is absolutely awful. Sometimes loud and then so soft you can’t even hear it on full volume. It’s incredibly frustrating when so much of this production is first rate. Hopefully they will fix this problem in post production soon.
