Publisher's Summary

One of Time’s 10 most important nonfiction books of the 20th century.

Experience a bold take on this classic autobiography as it’s performed by Oscar-nominated Laurence Fishburne.

In this searing classic autobiography, originally published in 1965, Malcolm X, the Muslim leader, firebrand, and Black empowerment activist, tells the extraordinary story of his life and the growth of the Human Rights movement. His fascinating perspective on the lies and limitations of the American dream and the inherent racism in a society that denies its non-White citizens the opportunity to dream, gives extraordinary insight into the most urgent issues of our own time.

The Autobiography of Malcolm X stands as the definitive statement of a movement and a man whose work was never completed but whose message is timeless. It is essential for anyone who wants to understand the African American experience and America as a whole.

A bit radical but thought provoking read

One of the best autobiographies I have read that tells about the life of a true leader. A leader who inspired people to rise and revolt. The book also gives a vivid picture of America’s deep rooted race problem.

A must read for anyone looking to know more about the racism issue in US and life of
Malcolm X.

This book is educational

This book has enriched my understanding of the world we live in. It gave insight into the plight of the black man in America, what hustling actually means, how religion and power operate and it strips down for me the otherwise glorious image of America.

The technological progress of the world seem so futile with glaring human rights issues all around us.

Thanks Malcom for sharing your story and your thoughts, so fearlessly!

it's Nearly perfect

one of my favorite books of all time.. only problem is that the preface is missing.... I think Laurence Fishburne did a great Job channelling Malcolm... only person that might have done better is Denzel in the 90s... only reason I'm not giving it 5stars is because it's missing a Preface... (Alex Haley's part about meeting Malcom X) and the Epilogue..(the Death of Malcolm X and the events leading up too)... Those parts are equally important to me and I remember them from the physical copy..

Sadly this was written in 1964...

We did not listen then and we are not really listening now. Too many foxes and not enough wolves in powerful positions. You will have to listen/read the book to understand my comment. Malcolm X is insightful, articulate and self aware; Alex Haley is a skillful writer; and Laurence Fishburne’s narration is excellent.

I’m not even finished with the book yet. But Laurence Fishburnes’ way of telling this story is amazing. 11/10 I’m sure when I’m finished

I am a better man

I am a better man for having listened to this book. I never knew that Malcolm X had left a autobiography however, I remember that time period. I was young then, I dealt with a lot of racism and one of the things that I remembered was white associates would try to force me to tell them was I for Malcolm X or was I for Martin Luther King. They would tell me Malcolm X is a Bad ni@#er and Martin Luther king was a good one. **( Note how they used the N word and did not think it was offensive). I never bought into any of that and never gave my opinion as you would loose either way. I just wanted to see both of them force this country into new Direction. Today's young men and women who don't remember the struggle of the 1960s they don't remember very much except in history books. But to see white America finally catch on that the systematic racism is deeply ingrained (BLM George Floyd). The Autobiography of Malcolm X shows how far we have come and where we are today. Really loved Chapter 15

Worth the wait

I’ve been looking forward to this production since it was announced and Laurence Fishburne really delivered. Far and away the best audiobook I’ve purchased this year. The book is great in its own right so I don’t think I can add any praise that hasn’t already been given to the text. I’m already about half way through this one and I’ll probably repeat it a couple more times in the coming weeks. Fishburne is THAT good.

Phenomenal and absolutely essential!

The Autobiography of Malcolm X, the title should be enough , but Malcolm’s life , struggles , triumphs and is an incredible inspirationally listening experience...
This is a very important book and although Malcolm X is somebody I am inspired by , but to anyone who doesn’t know the truth and historical facts about MX , you can hear how visionary Malcolm was and how he was so ahead of his time with his incredible insights into life , civil and human rights which we can all relate to today !

The narrator Laurence Fishburne is phenomenal and captures the mood , language , humour and ambience of the intense content that keeps you absolutely riveted from beginning to the end..

I thoroughly recommend this Malcolm X audio book as absolutely essential and fascinating and with LF’s wonderful narration making it a truly amazing listening experience!

Fascinating

I had a jumble of emotions whilst listening to this book, from incredulity, irritation, deep sadness and amusement at situations Mr X found himself and his sardonic humour.
I nearly gave up on this a couple of times as the honesty was at times difficult. But this book is about Malcom X's journey warts and all. The final chapters explain his journey and the conclusions he came to based on close observation of his fellow man in a variety of situations.
A book I've always wanted to read and I'm so glad I did.

insightful

Book surprisingly goes into great detail of what it was like in black ghetto's of the 1940's America. Then it expands further and looks more broadly at the civil rights movement, in an American and International context. A incredible story well told that is thought provoking.

Also the voice acting is spot on.

Masterful narration

Eerily relevant today. Malcolm X portrays himself and both an inspirational revolutionary and flawed character. I’m astounded at how well he predicted the modern world now from back in 1965. He forecasts the BLM movement, woke-ness and the rise of China. Not so much the islamificafion of the USA however. Not only interesting to hear X’s perspective but also a good period piece. Lawrence Fishburne is of the highest class of narrator, he does not only narrate the work he performs it as a role and does so extremely successfully.

Arguably the greatest autobiography of all time

Lawrence Fishburne delivers an incredibly moving and passionate performance of the life story of Malcolm X.

A truly in depth autobiography from Malcolm Little growing up 1920s America, to hustler drug addict 'Red' in Boston and NYC, prisoner, Islam convert and black revolutionary Malcolm X.

Essential listening for anyone even slightly interested in America's race issues, Islam, understanding the real Malcolm X and not the "Evil Black Separatist" he is often misunderstood as.

Empowering, the true pioneer of freedom

whilst a little slow to start, many of the stories and experiences the young Malcolm faces come back to either haunt or teach him at an older age.

I love how he presents the true message of Islam and shows the struggle that both black face all over the globe.

Islam is a real solution to the world's problems today in 2022 and this book held true in 1960 and today. well worth the read and potentially a chance to find the real Islam.

Brave man

Turns out Malcolm X stood for so much more than I knew. He was self made, a deep thinker and most of all, not afraid to change his beliefs in the face of new knowledge. Absolutely loved the book.
