About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

THE THIRD NOVEL IN THE RECORD-BREAKING, MILLION-COPY BESTSELLING THURSDAY MURDER CLUB SERIES.

This audiobook in The Thursday Murder Club series is read by a new narrator, Fiona Shaw.

Featuring an exclusive conversation between Richard Osman and award-winning presenter Steph McGovern at the end of the audiobook.

It is an ordinary Thursday and things should finally be returning to normal.

Except trouble is never far away where the Thursday Murder Club is concerned. A decade-old cold case leads them to a local news legend and a murder with no body and no answers.

Then a new foe pays Elizabeth a visit. Her mission? Kill...or be killed.

As the cold case turns white hot, Elizabeth wrestles with her conscience (and a gun), while Joyce, Ron and Ibrahim chase down clues with help from old friends and new. But can the gang solve the mystery and save Elizabeth before the murderer strikes again?

'Full of Osman's trademark charm, insight and intelligence' Lee Child
'Tender, hopeful and funny' Marian Keyes
'I adored this thrilling adventure. His best yet!' Claire Douglas

You can never truly guess correctly with Richard Osman’s books, can you? With this one, I could only piece together a fragment of the mystery. It’s another clever installment, though I must admit I didn’t find it quite as captivating as the other two in the series.
That may partly be because it took me some time to get used to Fiona Shaw’s narration in the audiobook—the first two, voiced by Lesley Manville, were absolute perfection. Still, once I settled in, the story unfolded with Osman’s trademark charm and wit.
And the epilogues? I was not prepared for those. A brilliant touch of suspense that leaves you thinking long after the last page (or in my case, the last track).

first things first. The narrator is good. I thought wouldn't like the narrator, but after a while you dont even notice the difference. She is as good as Lesley Manville, so dont let the change in narrator put you off.

This is as good as it gets. Finished listening to all the three books till now in the series, and the books keep getting better and better.

My God Richard Osman can write.

At first, I regretted buying this audiobook just because for the performance. No offense to Fiona Shaw, but the bar was set high by Leslie Manville. Fiona's narration is like reading to oneself and not narrating. There is a vast difference. Sometimes her tone is so low, that it is like whisper; especially when reading Joyce's journal. But, as the chapters went on, I kind of got used to this. As for the story, again the expectation was set high because of the prequels. Humor is good, subtle. Pauline's involvement in this case is (sort of) unexpected. It was very easy to figure out Elizabeht's plan for Viktor. Nevertheless, I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Can't wailt for book 4.

Good. Narration could have been better.

Now that I'm done with the third book, like an addict, I'm looking high and low for credits to buy the fourth.

This book brings back the residents of the Fair Haven into another adventure that takes it's own twists and turns. For those who've heard the earlier books, you'll miss the voices and characters created by Lesley Manville. Fiona Shaw is an accomplished artist, but you need to break the mold to allow for the new voice and that was difficult.

Writing is weak is quite a few spots, one can see that Richard has taken the easy way out and a few chapters are quite abrupt. The developments and tension is not evenly paced everywhere.

But overall, it's quite breezy and makes you now want to see the characters being brought to life on screen soon. wonder what Spielberg or others touted to develop the scripts are planning to do. Can't wait.

addictive series
