About this listen

15 Years After Don’t Lose Your Mind, Lose Your Weight Comes the New Diet Manual for the Country

Does intermittent fasting really work? Should we go on high-protein diets? Is doing a gut cleanse worth it? Should we be switching to millets?

In her insightful new book, Rujuta Diwekar answers these questions and shows us a commonsense way of eating and living a full life.

A life without fear and confusion about food. A life where good health is the default. A life of happiness and enthusiasm. Because ghar ka khaana can do that for us. If we let it.

Though I had heard of this author, this is the first time I have read or heard something from her and I must say she comes out in flying colors. She has done a fine job in this book. She has reinforced traditional wisdom in food and nutrition. She has stuck to her roots and has done it so emphatically that traditionalists like me in this matter do not feel guilty at all. In fact I felt very reassured that whatever has developed in the society or my family over the period of may be more than a century is not wrong. I feel more reassured of telling no to eatables that I do not like and continue consuming what I have been doing for decades. Also, she encourages an occasional indulgence while reinforcing the basic three tenets on which she builds her approach: 1. Home Food 2. Regular exercises and 3. Good sound sleep. Now no need to be embarrassed if your “modern” friends, colleagues or family members are eating and drinking “modern fashionable and costly” creations and concoctions and you are enjoying your roti-lentil-vegetables-rice-buttermilk-salad meal and yes a small serving of some homemade dessert say like a “dudhi halwa”. Well done Rujuta!

However repeatedly and unnecessarily slipping into words and phrases in local vernacular including Hindi, Marathi and Gujarati mars the rhythm and flow of the narration. This is not your lecture, it is a book. During lectures I too sometimes use some local words or phrases to strike a familiarity chord with the audience but not in my books. I found it to be disturbing and unpleasant. It is for this reason I may not listen to or read any of her other books. I didn’t enjoy the act of listening though all praises for the books are in the paragraph above.

Nice book but narration unnecessarily mediocre

Nothing path breaking or enriching .. perhaps that's what a healthy diet; so RD has nothing new to share. May be expecting new is an error here.

Rujuta had made it so simple yet powerful. For Indian it is awesome. Even the speaker is excellent speaking in simple English with Hindi very required.
