the courage to be happy.

The Courage to Be Happy presents profound insights into living life courageously and finding happiness along the way. It has already sold more than a million copies in Japan and is a sequel to The Courage to Be Disliked, which has changed lives across the globe as an international best-selling sensation.

As in The Courage to Be Disliked, we follow a Socratic dialogue between a philosopher and a young man. The philosopher believes that the key to a life of happiness and fulfilment is offered to us by the theories of Alfred Adler, a forgotten giant of 19th-century psychology who has long been overshadowed by his two contemporaries, Freud and Jung. The young man is full of doubt that life can be genuinely improved by simply changing his thinking. Patiently, the philosopher explains the essence of Adler's 'psychology of courage', taking the young man through the mental steps necessary to achieve it, and demonstrating to the young man and to us the changes this psychology will bring to the way we live our lives.

This is a work that is truly life-changing in its power and universally applicable in its scope.

I'm blown away by this book. I had read a few books on psychology, shame, etc but this book, along with it's prequel "courage to be disliked", seemed to connect the dots. It's not your typical self-help book with tips and tricks. It addresses issues at a very fundamental level that opens doors to entirely new worlds.
As far as performance goes, I felt the tone of the youth was unnecessarily arrogant or pessimistic and feels forced and even irritating at many places; you have to ignore that and focus on content. Also, the last part on love, I am not fully convinced. I felt that part of the book should have been a different book ("courage to love"?) so as not to lead to confusion. Maybe, a second reading will make me better understand those parts. Overall, a life-changing book that I strongly recommend.

Part one (The courage to be disliked) was more about oneself. But this one threw light more about ourselves. The concepts discussed are gems to be explored and experienced. Through thorough discussions and examples, the authors take us to where they wanted 'us' to be! Must read to gain the much needed courage.

The narrations were good except for the over-emphasized tone of the youth. Apart from that it was a clean delivery.

Psychology that helps!
