Publisher's Summary

From the start, Kerry Bishop anticipated danger: She expected unimaginable fear. In a terrifying race to save nine children, she prepared for the fight of her life. But she wasn’t prepared for a passion almost as dangerous as the mission she had undertaken. At the first, Linc O’Neil appeared to be exactly the kind of man Kerry needed: strong, ruthless and definitely too drunk to care about helping her steal a truck to get past the guards. Then she discovered her mistake. Linc was not a hardened mercenary; the heavy gear he carried was not guns but cameras. She had hijacked a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist. Now he was their last hope. Dependent on a stranger, Kerry refused to let unexpected desire complicate their mission. If Linc had the mistaken impression that she was a woman of the church, she was not about to correct him. Certainly, it kept him at arm’s length, which was just where she wanted this man who, despite his bad attitude and constant stream of threats, was their one chance for survival through fifty miles of treacherous jungle. And survival was all they could think about. But if they succeeded, what then? Could Kerry tell him the truth: that she was no more a woman sworn to chastity than she was immune to the powerful effect he had on her? That she desired him more and more? If freedom came, would they be free to love?

Beautiful

The story was passionate & exciting. I am a big Sandra Brown fan and she doesn't disappointed me. The chemistry between the protagonists is sizzling hot. The story is bended more towards love than myststo. If you think its a suspense thriller then let me make it clear its purely love story. But it is worth listening. The narration is fantastic.

2.5 stars. Great story, horrible characters

I liked the setting and the story build up and the action/suspense was awesome, buuuut, I can't spend hours/days reading about a man constantly belittling, talking down to and insulting a woman, and then be happy at the very last page when they become a couple. God, he was awful. I don't respect women who fall in love with men who treat them like crap, so I didnt/don't like either character. His only saving grace was helping her with her mission and even That was held over her head and thrown in her face CONSTANTLY. all this basically ruins a story for me. I really like Sandra Brown, but I wish ide skipped this one. I now have to read something else immediately to was this book from my thoughts/heart. Disappointed.

If you are looking to dissappear into a story...

This is a wonderful summer escape read. Not too much thinking just a great story you can listen to by the pool. Nice romance thrown -in

No means no!

I enjoyed the first part of this story pretty well. Some have complained about the H being too mean to her. Personally, I agreed with him at that point after the things she had done to him and his work. But with just over two hours left in the story, when he kept forcing her to have sex with him and she says "no" multiple times and he just keeps at it, I turned it off. So I don't actually know what happened after that, but multiple "nos" was enough for me. Renee Raudman is a good narrator but I prefer Sandra Brown's books narrated by Victor Slezak or Stephan Lang.

1987 Redux

Pretty good blast from the past consistent with what was popular in category romance in 1987. I enjoyed dashing photojournalist Linc and feisty (in a 1987 kind of way) do-gooder Kerry as they rescued a band of orphans from a war zone. The fun died down in the second half after they're safe in America and their adventure is over. As is typical in popular category romance from 1987, Linc does something really, really mean and then swears he'll never hurt her again. High marks for the grovel.

Very nicely narrated by Renee Raudman.

Predictable

Not her best. Still a good read (or listen :-)), but it was predictable right to the end.

Problematic Gender Dynamics

The gender relations in this book are problematic. I really don’t want to read/hear about a man threatening & practicing physical harm against a woman or forcing her into a kiss. This book has not aged well.

Romance with shades of the suspense

Another early Sandra Brown novel, but this one had shades of the suspense that characterizes much of her later work. My recent Sandra Brown binge is due to my one-month free Audible Escape subscription!

Modern Love-story

Nice compelling premise, suspenseful, and after considerable machinations with both the male and female leads’ characters, we (finally!) get our happy ending! A nice and short, but diverting!

old school action and romace

good old school action romance until the so called sex scene which was basically assault. Kind of ridiculous how it all came to a head and a little uncomfortable to listen to.

so Mills & Boon.

terrible story line. Gratuitous sex. Author shouldn't try to use big words she doesn't understand.
Only read this book if you want a shallow read
