Story
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. But Mark isn't ready to give up yet.

Story
Is it possible to write a sidesplitting novel about the breakup of the perfect marriage? If the writer is Nora Ephron, the answer is a resounding yes. For in this inspired confection of adultery, revenge, group therapy, and pot roast, the creator of Sleepless in Seattle reminds us that comedy depends on anguish as surely as a proper gravy depends on flour and butter.

Story
The Anarchy tells the remarkable story of how one of the world’s most magnificent empires disintegrated and came to be replaced by a dangerously unregulated private company, based thousands of miles overseas in one small office, five windows wide, and answerable only to its distant shareholders. In his most ambitious and riveting audiobook to date, William Dalrymple tells the story of the East India Company as it has never been told before, unfolding a timely cautionary tale of the first global corporate power.

Story
One of the 20th century's enduring works, One Hundred Years of Solitude is a widely beloved and acclaimed novel known throughout the world and the ultimate achievement in a Nobel Prize-winning career. The novel tells the story of the rise and fall of the mythical town of Macondo through the history of the Buendía family. Rich and brilliant, it is a chronicle of life, death, and the tragicomedy of humankind. In the beautiful, ridiculous, and tawdry story of the Buendía family, one sees all of humanity, just as in the history, myths, growth, and decay of Macondo, one sees all of Latin America.

A Really Short Review
- By Lunatica on 08-05-20
Publisher's Summary
Longlisted for the Women’s Prize 2020
Bloomsbury presents the audiobook edition of The Dutch House by Ann Patchett, read by Tom Hanks.
A masterpiece from the Orange Prize-winning, New York Times number one best-selling author of Commonwealth and Bel Canto: a story of love, family, sacrifice and the power of place.
Lose yourself in the story of a lifetime – the unforgettable Sunday Times best seller.
A story of two siblings, their childhood home and a past that they can’t let go.
Like swallows, like salmon, we were the helpless captives of our migratory patterns. We pretended that what we had lost was the house, not our mother, not our father. We pretended that what we had lost had been taken from us by the person who still lived inside.
Critic Reviews
"The book of the autumn. The American author of Commonwealth (brilliant) and Bel Canto (even better) releases perhaps her finest novel yet." (Sunday Times)
"The buzz around The Dutch House is totally justified. Her best yet, which is saying something." (John Boyne)
"Patchett leads us to a truth that feels like life rather than literature." (Guardian)

Home!
what a fun enjoyable light hearted read this was. A simple story of siblings growing up. Ann Patchett storytelling is sublime, it transports you into the Dutch house. The human relationship that seems complicated is told so simply and is in the all about love. And of course, Tom Hanks voice was music to my ears. Loved it!

Beautiful Story
It was a smooth experience. Tom Hanks reading is as expected - masterly. A story of a brother and his sister, spread over five decades, it is very well written. Not once did it drag, nor was it wearing down. It may not be long remembered, but it was surely good till it lasted. A one time read - indeed.

Family and Forgiveness, that’s how I summarise it.
A beautiful story that’s plays out in the light and shadows of the fabric that is a family. Danny’s view of this storyline is kept pure through the novel and makes it easy to follow
His love for his sister and his travels across the different relationships he is in is shared quite well. His own different take on events and how he goes through life is also a journey of making peace with life and that involves forgiving a few people along the way.
Tom Hanks delivers the story with a finesse that makes you feel every emotion that Danny has. While some narrators try to give a different voice to each character, Tom Hanks brings each character alive just with a certain artistry.
A good listen definitely and would be a good read too.

One of best books I have ever listened
The Dutch house starts slow but it captures you and before you know it you are inside the story. The narration by Tom Hanks is of course very good but I found it fast so I just listened to it at 0.85x.

Calming read
Tom Hank’s’ narration is flawless. You are truly transported. If you are looking for a fast paced, thrilling saga this is NOT for you. It is the late night read that calms you enough to sleep. The characters and world feel realistic and familiar. The author hasn’t created a world, but a created a beautiful story from our mundane world. It is an engaging story that is like a warm cup of coffee.

Amazing pleasant like a walk on a breezy evening.
Loved the nuances in the thought process of the lead characters. The experience of reading this book is enhanced by the narration. After a while Tom Hanks become Danny.
