Story
One of the 20th century's enduring works, One Hundred Years of Solitude is a widely beloved and acclaimed novel known throughout the world and the ultimate achievement in a Nobel Prize-winning career. The novel tells the story of the rise and fall of the mythical town of Macondo through the history of the Buendía family. Rich and brilliant, it is a chronicle of life, death, and the tragicomedy of humankind. In the beautiful, ridiculous, and tawdry story of the Buendía family, one sees all of humanity, just as in the history, myths, growth, and decay of Macondo, one sees all of Latin America.

Story
At the heart of India’s most powerful empire, a revolution is brewing. Bhishma, the noble patriarch of Hastinapura, is struggling to maintain the unity of his empire. On the throne sits Dhritarashtra, the blind King, and his foreign-born Queen - Gandhari. In the shadow of the throne stands Kunti, the Dowager-Queen, burning with ambition to see her firstborn become the ruler, acknowledged by all. Story
The Anarchy tells the remarkable story of how one of the world’s most magnificent empires disintegrated and came to be replaced by a dangerously unregulated private company, based thousands of miles overseas in one small office, five windows wide, and answerable only to its distant shareholders. In his most ambitious and riveting audiobook to date, William Dalrymple tells the story of the East India Company as it has never been told before, unfolding a timely cautionary tale of the first global corporate power.

Publisher's Summary
Based on the lives of real people and yet so brutal and shocking in places that it's almost impossible to believe, Mario Puza weaves a dark and compelling narrative that climaxes with a blistering showdown.
Tyrant, blackmailer, racketeer, murderer - his influence reaches every level of American society. Meet Don Corleone, a friendly man, a just man, areasonable man. The deadliest lord of the Cosa Nostra. The Godfather.
A modern masterpiece,The Godfather is a searing portrayal of the 1940s criminal underworld. It is also the intimate story of the Corleone family, at once drawn together and ripped apart by its unique position at the core of the American Mafia. Still shocking 40 years after it was first published, this compelling tale of blackmail, murder, and family values is a true classic.

The outlawed that makes you think
Perhaps , I must be amongst the readers who read this book after many decades after it is written . Initially , perhaps in eighties when I used to see friends reading this book , going by the title , I thought it must be a story of a noble , charitable and a big boss like man protecting his followers or help seekers . Later when I learnt that , It is about crime, underworld dons , drugs , gambling etc. , I lost interest in it in the course of time .
Post retirement two years ago ( from 9 to 9 job), my library went expanding and this book got into it curiously .
After reading / listening , I found it can engage the reader reasonably well if not captivating type. So much so that I even felt a bit emotional when the don died of natural causes . That is the power of the book to epitomise a criminal into a hero and a man of principles in the path he has chosen to tread . A well written book from the story line point of view .

The godfather Vito Corleone's voice given by the narrator was so apt and the best part!!
The narration was extremely engaging and one could literally picturise everything said. The voices of the characters was apt and made it even more enjoyable.

Captivating
I don't need to comment on the story itself, there's a reason it's deified in popular culture. The narration is one of the best I've ever heard, and the narrator's clever usage of voice tones is exceptional.
