Not worth the 0.00

What would have made The Jewel of Dantenos better?

The actor was so monotone

What could Brian D. Anderson have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

made the characters more engaging and make a clear determination of the relationship.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Derek Perkins?

Jim Dale; but that's because he is amazing, And my go to British voice actor after Patrick Thee Stewart

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I love a good back story and I guess this one was alright. I did really like the immortal dude

Any additional comments?

Nope. Just sad I was looking for good free listen and sadly this is a situation where you get what you paid for (nothing)

An outlandish tale

The narrator is easy to listen to and can carry voices for various characters well. The character Lee is a complete jerk and not a good role model. The character is a turn off to the reader and I couldn't finish the story. Plot development is slow.

Didn't keep my attention

I wouldn't worry to listen to the other books. I usually enjoy these kind of stories but this didn't keep my attention. I can see why it was free. Borrrriiinnnggg!

Not my thing. Won't be looking for this type of reading any time soon. Poor.

Meh

Maybe I should read the other books in the series, but none of it made logical sense. The story could’ve easily been expanded upon as there were noticeable options for conflict. Missed opportunities.

even for free: i'd like to have my money back

this is just aweful. all around.
the story is not interesting, it's all flat and just plain boring.
the voices don't always fit the characters either. the "hero" is supposed to be 23, i think, and is made sound like an 80 year old. come on!
glad i tried this free trial though, now i know not to bother with the other books.

Glad it was free

While this was a descriptive, well written short story, there was not enough to entice me to take up a new series.

Just what I needed, a sleepmaker!

I honestly picked this up for free so it could put me to sleep, and it has done that job perfectly every night I've listened to it.

Do you buy Bud Light because Guinness is too expensive? Do you watch ESPN Ocho because you can't afford to upgrade to premium cable? Do you watch table tennis because the balls are just too big in real tennis? Then this book is for you!

This is watered down fiction with every swashbuckling fantasy trope to ever hit print. Gods and men collide in a plot that doesn't makes any sense when you can't stay awake to follow it. Yet, when you do wake up, you swear you've heard, or read this somewhere. Maybe it was in a cave under the misty mountains that the precious One Ring... I mean Jewel of Dantenos corrupted our antagonist, and emboldened our hero. Maybe it was the invincible Superman (er... Godlike pirate guy whose name I can't recall, the one who speaks like John Hurt's character in V for Vendetta) who risked nothing to save mear mortals from certain DOOOOM!!!!. (Not accusing the author of plagiarism, just noting similarities)

Despite its devastating predictability, and recycled plots, I have to give the author 2 stars for effort. Seriously, I've never written a damn thing. I can barely rub 2 sentences together to make a paragraph.

Intriguing appetiser to what can become an epic

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I enjoyed the story and felt the description had me concocting the imagery of the scenes in my head.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I think all the characters were quite balanced. Each had a strength and a weakness and I couldn't really enjoy one more than another.

What does Derek Perkins bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

The arrogance of the Lee. The humble wisdom of Millet. The brutality of Jalil. He brought those characters out.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The confrontation and realisation of fate between Lee and the Blackness.

Any additional comments?

There were points in the plot that had me think whether it was likely to have happened or whether it was just a Ex Machina for the story. Also it was a slight dampener to have two separate stories of the of the short story and the prologue preview to have very similar scenes of old guardian failing to protect some artefact. I wonder if repetition is used more often in his other stories.

Adventure into Madness

An enjoyable escape from sanity. The story is of greed and how it can give and take. Also how standing firm about what you want, is always wise.

Free on Audible

This novella is currently free on Audible. It is entertaining and definitely worth the price. The story is decent, but the characters are underdeveloped. Lee himself is 23, but the voice employed for him is that of a grizzled old man. Overall, though I was not smitten with it, I enjoyed the story and the series may have potential.

A nice little side trip into Lord Starfinder’s World, set before the events of the Godling Chronicles, it gives some insight into Lee and Millets friendship. Very enjoyable!
