Story
Humanity now, perhaps more than in any previous time, has an opportunity to create a new, saner, more loving world. This will involve a radical inner leap from the current egoic consciousness to an entirely new one. In illuminating the nature of this shift in consciousness, Tolle describes in detail how our current ego-based state of consciousness operates. Then gently, and in very practical terms, he leads us into this new consciousness. We will come to experience who we truly are and learn to live and breathe freely.

Story
Underneath everything you think and do, there is a stillness that is both vast and alive. This is who you are in your most essential nature - but once you’ve caught a glimpse, how do you integrate this discovery into daily living? This is the question Eckhart Tolle explores with you in Bringing Stillness into Everyday Life. Underneath everything you think and do, there is a stillness that is both vast and alive. This is who you are in your most essential nature - but once you’ve caught a glimpse, how do you integrate this discovery into daily living?
Publisher's Summary
Fulfillment and Joy Through the Realization of Our Essential Identity
When challenges arise in your life, what happens inside of you? For many of us, the larger the problem, the more we resist, contract, and react unconsciously. On the other hand, explains Eckhart Tolle, in any given moment we have the chance to remain open to life, align with what is, and experience the natural sense of peace and aliveness that he calls "the joy of being".
The Joy of Being is a four-session program that explores the process of awakening to our identity beyond the limits of thought and the impact this transformation can have in the world. Speaking after a three-year teaching hiatus, Eckhart discusses:
- Working with whatever conditions arise as your guide for the continuing practice of presence
- Using the inner body and sense perception as anchors to the now
- Freedom from suffering - the spiritual seeker's best motive
- The practice of "being the space" for the situations and circumstances you often find difficult
"The joy of being is derived not from something that happens or from some object but from the essence of who you are," teaches Eckhart. "To know yourself as that is joy." The Joy of Being points to a revolutionary phase in human development where thinking is no longer the dominant aspect of our lives, and unconditioned awareness expresses itself through and as each one of us.

More of the same
If your familiar with Eckhart he speaks from presence and any book you pick up of his takes you there. I was a little disappointed hoping to hear something new. I used to enjoy his sense of humor but not so much in this one. There were a couple of questions asked that pertained to my situation so that was helpful. I really love what Eckhart has brought to humanity but I will no longer keep buying anything new. I have most everything he has done and that is enough. I can listen to the power of now and a new earth and refresh all I need to remember.

I am here now ...
The sound of the words takes you beyond words and beyond sound to the stillness within. Eckhart's timeless message that you are to allow the Now to be as it is and so realize the formless essence of the Now as consciousness itself. Be there as the awareness when your mind starts saying things and be aware of the temporary nature of all forms. Could have done without the flute music but loved Eckhart's rendition of "A Lion Sleeps Tonight".

Doorways....
Eckhart has been a doorman to the doorways for me for years now. Guiding me and helping me find a greater awareness of things I’d known all my life yet never knew what they were. Instead of just standing in these doorways he guided through and deeper into them and consciousness. I’ve had to return to his guidance multiple times over the years because I would get lost in the world and my mind again. Not everyone is ready for consciousness quite yet, but he is the first teacher that helped me see what was always right in front of me. Or more aptly, within me, that being, eternal peace.

I loved previous paper backs that I read and this was the 1st audio book from him that I listened to. I didn't realise that it wasn't an audiobook but more a recording of him speaking at a retreat.

Not a great place to start
This a live recording of a retreat. It's worth getting if you've already read/heard the power of now, a new earth, and stillness speaks, but if not, those are better places to start.
For more frequent eggtart listeners, you'll probably enjoy this. It gives you a good sense of being there at the retreat and, as always he has some great insights to share (mixed in with ' new earth' levels of unfounded logical leaps). The good stuff is really good though :-)

WORST AUDIO!!!
Would you try another book written by Eckhart Tolle or narrated by Eckhart Tolle?
This was the first audio book of his I have purchased. No I would not try another book if it was done in Audio.
Has The Joy of Being put you off other books in this genre?
Only audio version
How could the performance have been better?
The audio could have been of higher quality.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Joy of Being?

As with the Power of Now, I was sorry that it finished. Yet another powerful Tolle offering. He is truly an amazing teacher. This book and the Power of Now have made a big difference in my life. Everything he says is applicable right now. I will be listening to this again each year. I will be listening to all his offerings.
