Story
In a small town in Sweden it appears to be an ordinary day. But look more closely, and you'll see a mysterious masked figure approaching a bank. Two hours later, chaos has descended. A bungled attempted robbery has developed into a hostage situation - and the offender is refusing to communicate their demands to the police. Inside the building, fear quickly turns to irritation for the seven strangers trapped inside. But as the minutes tick by, they begin to suspect that the criminal mastermind holding them hostage might be more in need of rescuing than they are.

And then she sees something shocking. It's only a minute until the train moves on, but it's enough. Now everything's changed.

Story
A series of unsolved murders with one thing in common: each of the deaths bears an eerie resemblance to the crimes depicted in classic mystery novels. The deaths lead FBI Agent Gwen Mulvey to mystery bookshop Old Devils. Owner Malcolm Kershaw had once posted online an article titled 'My Eight Favourite Murders,' and there seems to be a deadly link between the deaths and his list - which includes Agatha Christie's The ABC Murders, Patricia Highsmith's Strangers on a Train and Donna Tartt's The Secret History.

Publisher's Summary
'Hello there.' I looked at the pale, freckled hand on the back of the empty bar seat next to me in the business class lounge of Heathrow Airport, then up into the stranger's face. 'Do I know you?'
Delayed in London, Ted Severson meets a woman at the airport bar. Over cocktails they tell each other rather more than they should, and a dark plan is hatched - but is either of them being serious? Could they actually go through with it? And if they did, what would be their chances of getting away with it?

Overrated Novel
It's pretty excruciating to listen to this predictable overhyped story. I hardly enjoyed any reveals. It's an insult to call this is as a Thriller. I mean after seeing Dexter this is very ordinary and boring. Highly recommend this to give this a pass.

This is a brilliant story, twists and turns and the ultimate twist right at the end!!! I couldn't stop listening! Performances were good too again some of the best I've heard so far- it does help having more than one narrator. Genius :-)

Morally confused but trashily gripping.
From the outset the characters are morally confused and off-kilter but this does not entirely detract from the stories gripping enjoyment. For anyone looking for a trashy thriller then this is for you. It's fast paced and feels akin to a Nora Roberts novel.

Good story - typically American finish
I enjoyed the style and plotting if this story. My only real disappointment was that I anticipated an ending that would have taken this beyond the standard crime novel - but instead it hurriedly degenerated into a more formulaic denouement. My assumption, perhaps even my hope, is that this came at the insistence of a "safety-first" publisher. At least then I can believe that the author's future may hold something more satisfying.

Spoiled by poor editing...
What did you like best about The Kind Worth Killing? What did you like least?
A reasonably decent trashy novel to pass the hours... some poor narration.
How could the performance have been better?
Speed of some of the narration... made... me .... want to go.... to... sleep.... zzzzz
If this book were a film would you go see it?
No... as I know the ending.
Any additional comments?
Not sure who edited the book, but there were lots of cracking errors.
Such as... 'She crossed her legs, the robe fell away from her legs.'
I found myself silently correcting grammatical mistakes as I listened.

The female narrator for Lily ruined the book
The book is great...story is captivating but the narrator for Lily ruined the entire experience. She had a robotic way of speaking and pronouncing every H is words that start with Wh, which was really annoying to...worth a read but not this version

Really messes with your mind
Having really loved Swanson’s novel Her Every Fear, it was a no-brainer that I simply had to read The Kind Worth Killing, especially after reading all the raving reviews about it. As I am always looking for captivating books for my daily commute in the car, I downloaded this novel from Audible, and I am so glad I did! The Kind Worth Killing was a fantastic read, the sort that made me sit in my car in the driveway on a cold, chilly night for “just a few more minutes” because I couldn’t tear myself away. I can’t remember much about my driving on those days, except that I got there safe and sound, but my mind was fully captivated by the book. Now there is a psychological thriller that lives up to its name!
Swanson offers us two female leads so chilling and malicious that listening to them sent shivers down my spine at times, and yet Lily intrigued me to a point where I silently feared for her safety and secretly hoped she would get away with murder (literally). She was both terrifying and sympathetic, which is a very hard thing to achieve in a protagonist, and I applaud the author for pulling this off so perfectly. It helped that Lily always had a perfectly reasonable explanation – at times challenging my own moral conventions. Is killing justified if the victim is a truly horrible individual with no chance of redemption, set to make a lot of lives miserable? Lily thinks so. In the airport bar, she says to Ted:
"Truthfully, I don't think murder is necessarily as bad as people make it out to be. Everyone dies. What difference does it make if a few bad apples get pushed along a little sooner than God intended? And your wife, for example, seems like the kind worth killing."
Sounds reasonable to you? No, no! *slaps face* - murder is BAD! I would love to delve deeper into the characters and discuss the storyline, but this is not the place and I would hate to give any spoilers. My advice is: plunge into this book blindly and let Swanson take you on his journey. The writing is excellent. The subject matter is chilling. It will mess with your mind – believe me! And the ending – I was worried at one point about how the author would pull this off, but it was perfect!
As for the narration: I loved that the publisher used four different narrators for the different characters, which made the story easy to follow and a pleasure to listen to.
The Kind Worth Killing was one of my favourite reads this year so far – one of those rare psychological thrillers that really mess with your mind and make you itch to find someone to discuss it with. I loved it, and am so glad I stumbled across it. If you love a good psychological thriller and are looking for something different, do yourself a favour and pick up this book today. You won’t be disappointed.

Interesting Book with many twists and turns but lacked excitement and suspense
The Kind Worth Killing was an interesting book. The character development was excellent as was the story - it had many twists and turns which kept you guessing - but overall it lacked excitement and suspense?! It was not an “edge of your seat” thriller. One reason could have been the lack of any affinity for any of the main characters who were all involved in murders in some way. Nevertheless it was a very enjoyable book to read

Characters worth knowing, characters worth losing.
Narration was also a strong point, a different voice for each of the 4 perspectives the book changes to throughout the story.
