Story
The ancient Toltecs believed that life, as we perceive it, is a dream. We each live in our own personal dream, and these come together to form the dream of the planet, or the world in which we live. Problems arise when our perception of the dream becomes clouded with negativity, drama, and judgment (of ourselves and others), because it's in these moments of suffering that we have forgotten that we are the architects of our own reality and we have the power to change our dream if we choose.

Publisher's Summary
In the Toltec tradition, three fundamental masteries guide us to our true nature, which is happiness, freedom, and love.
The first is the Mastery of Awareness. This mastery teaches us to be aware of what we really are. It is the first step toward freedom because we cannot be free if we don't know what we are, or what kind of freedom we are looking for. The Toltecs said, "Let us see ourselves with truth", and they created a mastery just for awareness.
The second is the Mastery of Transformation, which teaches us how to become spiritual warriors and stalk our actions and reactions so we can break free of the knowledge that enslaves us. This mastery shows us how to change the dream of our life by changing our agreements and beliefs.
The Mastery of Love is the result of the first two masteries. From the Toltec perspective, everything is made of Love. Love is Life itself. When we master Love, we align with the Spirit of Life passing through us. We are no longer the body, or the mind, or the soul; we are Love. Then every action we take is an expression of Love, and Love in action can only produce happiness.
When we master Awareness, Transformation, and Love, we reclaim our divinity and become one with God. This is the goal of the Toltec.

An amazing book!
Only equal in comparison to "The Road Less Traveled". I've heard many good reviews of the author of this book and will now download his other two books from this site!
Even if they are merely standing on the shoulders of giants the message is heard loud and clear. Deep profound wisdom. I wish I had read these books many years ago.
Wisdom is one of the best gifts a person can receive.

Slow down!
There is no doubt this is worth listening to, but it goes too fast, not allowing one to really absorb the ideas. Other thought-provoking books are a bit slower-paced like The Power of Now and The Four Agreements. I wish iTunes had a 'slow' option!

Didn't Master It
I've read very few "philosophy of relationships" books, but I can say that this one is interesting. It was a little too new age/free-to-be-you-and-me/I-am the-center-of-the-universe/all-I-can-do-is-accept-you-for-who-you-are for my own tastes. I can't claim that the book changed my life like some other reviewers claim, but it did get me thinking about relationships in a new way. To me that made it worth while.
The reading style is ok. The male and female reader read alternate chapters, which I found a little distracting.

Very eye opening
I was sceptical at first because the book gave me cult like vibes, however, really loved the ideas in the book and the fact it is short and sweet so finished it all in 3 days.
My favourite chapters explained the following:
*how love is unconditional
*no one is responsible for my happiness and I am not responsible for anyone else's happiness
*the importance of self love
*the importance of playing and exploring even as adults
Would really recommend 🌸

Required reading
When I started listening to this book I realised I'd already read it a year ago on Kindle. My initial thought was to return it and re-use the credit, but I was on a dog walk and left it playing anyway, and I'm glad I did. It's just brilliant. So many wonderful and valuable lessons about love and relationships. This book should be read by everyone, several times. I won't be returning it, so that I can listen to it over and over.

Not quite as good as The Four Agreements...
But still a very good read! It repeats many points from The 4 Agreements, with a different focus this time. Many good and sensible things can be taken to practise (self-love, tolerance, acceptance, forgiveness) while others seem a little naive to me - like comparing your relationship to your partner to the one you have with your dog. Not really a convincing demonstration in my opinion.
We would all love to meet "the partner we don't want / don't need to change anything about", however this is the whole challenge or else everyone would be happy on this planet!
Therefore the parts with focus on self-love and self-respect are great, the rest of the advice as to mastering the relationship are not as great.
Still... enough "food for thought" to recommend! I Ioved the performance, specially the lady who has such a beautiful, soothing voice.
