Publisher's Summary

Seminal poems for moments of mindfulness.

First published in 1923 and never out of print, The Prophet has been translated into over 100 languages and read by millions of people around the world. On the face of it, a simple book of 26 poem fables sharing one man’s wisdom. But The Prophet is so much more than that.

It has inspired people from John F Kennedy to The Beatles and became the '60s Bible of counterculture – all because of the timeless truths it shared. Each poem takes a different theme – pleasure, beauty, freedom, joy and sorrow – as the fictional Al Mustapha shares his thoughts and experiences as he prepares to travel back to his island home. Even on first listen, his words will seem achingly familiar, having soaked into our collective subconscious:

  • Like a chain, you are as weak as your weakest link
  • Love possesses not, nor would it be possessed
  • Let there be spaces in your togetherness
  • You talk when you cease to be at peace with your thought
  • It is well to give when asked, but it is better to give unasked

This collection makes the perfect bedtime listen or walking companion as you take time out from the world to consider your own truths and experiences, guided by the wise words and gentle hand of Kahlil Gibran.

A beautiful book read in a very soothing voice.

The book takes you on a journey of life and beautifully summarises every aspect of it. Loved it and I'm taking two lessons with me:-
1. Love knows not its own depth until the hour of seperation
2. You are good in countless ways, and you are not evil when you are not good

Comforting and Beautiful ❤️

One of the most beloved classics of all time. Published in 1923, it has been translated into more than twenty languages and is one of the finest works of Khalil Gibran.

The Prophet is a fable consisting of 26 short chapters. The book starts off with the prophet Almustafa, the "chosen and the beloved" leaving for his home country after having spent the last 12 years in the city of Orphalese. He is saddened, but he knows that he must leave. People gather to bid him farewell and ask him to impart his wisdom on some of the most important aspects of human life. His responses are covered in 26 beautiful poetic essays, that cover sprawling topics like love, work, joy living, work worship, freedom, self-knowledge, teaching, friendship, good and evil, etc. (naming just a few).

Of the good in you I can speak, but not of the evil. For what is evil but good tortured by its own hunger and thirst?
I loved this one.

The book has no particular ideology. It questions and answers at the same time, answers on the big things in life. I listened to it on Audible, narrated by Riz Ahmed. What a brilliant narration! Enjoyed the whole vibes. It was available on credit before, but now you can listen for free on "Audible Included" if you've subscription. I would suggest this book to everyone to read at least once, not for beginners.

SO GOOD !

This was my first audiobook. A short one, to begin with, but what a start to my audiobook journey !
I feel like I cannot get enough. Might just listen to this a few more times. Really liked Riz Ahmed's narration. This would be one of those titles I'd recommend everyone to read once in their life.

A must read for all ages

The topics Gibran touches upon and reveals the inner nature of life is stunning in its simplicity. How could we miss such a glaring aspect of life? We breeze through life without reflection and lose much of its essence in a life lived without reflection.

This book make you meet yourself

The book is good. Difficult to understand at first but when it hits, it pulls to your core. Makes you think of you as YOU.
The narration is equally appealing to the concept of what the writer wants to discuss.
