Publisher's Summary

What is love? It's more scientific than you think.

Through 10 illuminating lectures, Dr. Wind Goodfriend surveys the biology of interpersonal attraction, sexual preference and desire, and conflict resolution. You'll look at a variety of romantic notions, common myths, and love stereotypes through the lens of science in order to break them down and better set expectations when it comes to keeping a long-term relationship happy and healthy. You'll apply biology, psychology, and anthropology to that "spark" we feel when we are attracted to someone, to better understand what that feeling is.

The mystery of love meets the power of science. And you'll never fall in love again - in quite the same way.

what a fun science lecture!

The experiments are cool. The topic and issues are relevant to most if not all of us and the book is well written with a good flow. what makes this audio book, though, is the author's sense of humor and her delivery. If Wind Goodfriend had been my college psych professor I would have attended all her classes, gotten a's and probably been steered towards psychology as a career. what a wonderfully fun and genuinely inspiring person!

Keep Going

if you've had a psychology class in the past the beginning will be familiar but it quickly goes into interesting studies from the 60s to very recently, moves along at a really good pace, narration is good, author obviously smart and very interested in the topic, I found some useful ideas to improve my communication, and good reminders of things we know can help relationships but may not be consistent in applying. definitely recommend.

informative and engaging

this is the best audible original I have ever listened to and that is saying something. The lectures were informative and humerus without losing their emphasis on science and research. It was a perfect balance. The author was truly exceptional and it's the rare narrator that is able to read their own work in a way that is convincing and with a sense of pacing and timing. Overall this is an exceptional audio series

Whoops!

Fell thru the cracks or intentionally omitted without mention? A very welcome subject and mostly up to date. But never in the sexual behaviour the otherwise very good lecture mentions pregnancy and its consequences: child, abortion, adoption, miscarriage. Not important??? Wow! The strong emotions one way or another with pregnancy both hormonal and psychological not mentioned??? Go figure.
Also, in the section on relatively common, uncommon and rare forms of sex and gender variations there is no mention of biological fitness to reproduce. (in 2021).
