In this scripted Audible Original, wisecracking marine biologist and astronaut Bee Guerrero has signed up for the trip of a lifetime: a series of dives deep into the pitch-black waters of Saturn’s moon, Enceladus.

Set in the near-future when global climate catastrophe has forced humans to search for solutions on new planets, The Sea in the Sky chronicles two astronauts’ journey, in what could be the final NASA-sponsored mission to space. In their search for life, Bee and Ty navigate uncharted waters, take on incredible risks and confront difficult truths about themselves. What will they find at the bottom of it all?

At times epic and intimate, laugh-out-loud funny and achingly soulful, The Sea in the Sky plumbs the depths of science and faith, triumph and failure. The Audible Original drama is told via daily "dispatches" sent from the space shuttle back to Earth, together with original music and sound design, a never-before-heard space rap, and a full cast of actors.

Dive into a world you need to hear to believe.

Science focused fiction

One of the best and most original science fiction stories in the recent times. Fantastic performance by the cast especially Octavia was outstanding.

Too much human, not enough sci-fi

Starts out promising, if a little overdramatic and kitschy, then starts to get worse as they are getting ready to leave Enceladus.

About this time, I really wanted to stop as I felt the characters themselves started to get in the way of the story - in an attempt to create tension.

The concept of the story was good, but the characters began to grate on me more and more as the story went along.

Then the discussions between the two characters often get bogged down into over-characterisation.

I love all kinds of sci-fi, but this took me beyond what I can usually cope with - think of people ‘oversharing’ or ‘forced-gossip’ and you’ll get what I mean.

This is not really a sci-fi book, but more of a study into the human condition. There’s little in the way of what I would consider hard sci-fi.

In the last few chapters the ‘book’ redeems itself a bit.

I really like these independent stories, especially as a showcase to a new author, but to be frank here, it was not my cup of tea.

I truly wanted to like this book as the actors obviously worked hard to present this book in the best possible light. I feel bad that I am not a fan.

Drawn-out nonsense

I wouldn't send this crew out to the shops for a pint of milk nevermind a mission to the far reaches of space. Too much histrionics not enough sci-fi. Even the 'human' side that was supposedly meant to make you empathise with the characters was so annoying at times; at others it was just so boring.

Such potential

Really interesting concept and well produced. Becomes nearly unlistenable due to the inevitable PC garbage that just had to be crowbarred in. Would it not have been green lit otherwise?

Combines deep-sea and space exploration in a philosophically excellent drama

There is plenty that this drama does right. It has a very believable story that we can relate to, since it’s set in the near future. The characters are fleshed out and well performed. There are many twists and dilemmas that make the story really engaging.
One thing that takes away from realism is that the astronauts can occasionally behave a little unprofessional, but to be fair, the story would not be near as entertaining without the humour and humanity that the duo brings.

It also includes really interesting thoughts on faith, hope, life and death as well as our on our species as a whole.

I hope you sink your teeth into it as deep as I did :)

Captured My Imagination

If you like SciFi, you will love this!!.. while listening to this audible you can picture the scene; and the story is told brilliantly. You can close your eyes and imagine you are there with them. All of the narrators done a great job in bringing out the characters. I was disappointed when it ended as I wanted more! I would love to see a follow up to this and think it would be brilliant as a film. Definitely worth the 5 Stars!!!

decent story, but annoying vocals

I thought the story was worth a listen. few decent parts. unfortunately I found the voice acting very irritating, over the top at times. the two main characters were trusted on a top mission to Saturn's moon, tho I wouldn't even trust them to walk my dog.

Had Potential but ruined

The outline of the story for this could have been so much more but was ruined.

Are we seriously to believe that billions was spent to send 2 people to a moon around Saturn on a 6 year round trip with one of the most annoying people ever.

I wouldn't have lasted 6 days with the main female character without throttling her. She's unprofessional, disobeys orders, hides the fact that she has panic attacks, jokes around most of the time when she should be being serious. Her "Rapping" with Simon was just ridiculous. Her boss is just spineless giving in to letting her go down by herself to somewhere unexplored with no radio contact. That is just down right stupid. I didn't end up finishing all the episodes.;

It was absolutely brilliant!

I'm a die hard fan and follower of sci-fi and fictional books in general. The performance and story of this series absolutely blew me away. Thank you for taking me on this thrilling journey. I really hope there's a next season.

An emotional rocket ship to the moon

I have to admit, i didn't know what to expect, least of all to be on the verge of tears.
Without going in to spoiler territory, this is something you will want to listen to if you enjoy scifi, with or without the human element.

I thoroughly reccomend this, and am honestly surprised it's free, so strap in and download; we are diving in.
