  • Mahabharata Episode 1: Beginnings
    Apr 20 2014

    Ganga, Devabrata and Shantanu

The first episode of the Stories of Mahabharata podcast series has been missing for a long time. The episode was not added because it did not have the production quality that we have been striving for. After a long break, we finally found some time to rerecord this episode and mix the vocal track with sound effects and music to make it at par with the rest of the episodes. We hope you like it.

This episode tells the story of the beginnings of the great saga told by Rishi Vyasa and written by lord Ganesha. The story begins with the narrative of King Shantanu's marriage with Ganga and the birth of Devabrata. Later we learn how prince Devabrata becomes the great Bhishma because of his “Bhisham” or profound vow – a vow which kickstarts the story of the Mahabharata and the destiny of the Kuru dynasty.

Congratulations team Mahabharata 👏

I am loving the Mahabharata audiobook. I like the expression of the narrator very much. I can connect these stories with the Tv show of doordarshan mahabharata and all the characters come live before my eyes. It's really wonderful to recall each character of these stories. A big round of applause to the perfect music and all the effects played in between the episodes. Congratulations to the whole team for producing this audiobook which will surely benefit the young generation equally. Kudos to all of you👏👏👏

You know how to grab a reader’s attention.”

Hats off to the narrator and sound editor. You two are truly amazing. Actually 'amazing' is too small word for your hard work. I must say that I am the biggest fan of your Mahabharata stories. Not a day goes by without hearing your stories. I feel like Mahabharata is unfolding in front of me while listening to the story.

The only problem is that I am not seeing the episodes after chapter 68, (Fall of Dron) so please do something about it.

Great telling of Indian Classic

The storyteller has great talent and enthusiasm and the sounds bring the story even more alive. I hope the tale will be finished, as we are left with the great battle incomplete. Please more.

Exciting Rendention

This version of the Mahabharata
Brings to vivid life the fiercest battles and staunch bravery of the warriors. I do wish the inspirational spiritual nature of the war and especially Lord Sri Krishna, had been woven into the tale of heroism. The narration is good for the male characters but needs to express more feminity for female characters.

I finished the whole series in a matter of days.

I loved it. the voices, the sounds behind the narrator, the excitement and the emotional attachment you find yourself having for the characters. it was impossible for me to stop listening. I just put it on while I was cleaning and running and resting and I enjoyed every moment of it.

I loved this production. I couldn't stop listening. Imagine my surprise when I reached the last episode and was left dangling in midair. Can someone please tell me how I can find the rest of the episodes? Once again, I want to thank Mr. Bhawmik and Mr. Azi for a presentation Worthy of the Mahabharata.

beautifully done

This is officially the best way to experience the Mahabharata on audible. I binged it to oblivion and now I'm just waiting for them to catch up. This has absolutely piqued my interest in Hinduism.

A Cultural Performance

This performance brings life to a story that is completely new to an English native like me in a way that doesn’t feel too different or alien to understand

Well done!

The stories of the Mahabharata come alive with passionate narration, mystical music and cosmic sound effects. I enjoy binge listening to this instead of watching boring Hollywood garbage.
