Publisher's Summary

Sooner or later there arises in every human heart the desire for holiness, spirituality, God, call it what you will. One hears mystics speak of a divinity all around them that is within our grasp, that would make our lives meaningful and beautiful and rich, if we could only discover it. Instead, there is heartache everywhere, loneliness, fear, confusion, inner conflict, outer conflict.

In this spiritual masterpiece, Anthony de Mello opens you to the possibility that there is a way of getting rid of all of that. There is a way to transcend the sad condition wherein you are always wanting to change yourself, wherein your self-intolerance grows with every effort you make to improve yourself at the cost of struggle and pain. Anthony de Mello invites you to suppose a way of being in which you desist from all efforts to change yourself and from all self-dissatisfaction. Would you then think that you were doomed to go to sleep having passively accepted everything in you and around you?

The Way to Love reveals that there is another way besides laborious self-pushing on the one hand and stagnant acquiescence on the other. It is the way of self-understanding. These things in you that you struggle to fix just need to be understood. If you understood them, they would change, and you would discover that here and now is all is well. Though everything seems a mess, all is well. You would discover that you are already happy and fulfilled right now, and always have been, though you don’t yet know it.

A wake-up call that dominates you into a hug

Stepping into awareness is comforting. The decision to step in is terrifying. Stunning work of an mind astoundingly in tune with nature's reality.

Great book, bad audio quality though

I love this book, but unfortunately the audio is not very good. Too many flawed pieces in the audio in which, apparently, a word or two are missing. Would love to see this great book with a better audio.

I liked his other works much better. The audio in this one is also poor quality.

Bad audio quality

I heard a lot of great things about this book, so I was excited to listen to it. The audio quality, totally ruined it for me though. I wasn't too thrilled with the content either. Maybe it's because I've read a lot of self-help books and I've heard a lot of these ideas before. Maybe someday I'll buy a physical copy of the book and see if that clicks with me more.

Had high hopes for this book

I was recommended this book by a friend and I love listening to audio books on my drive to work but man… they really should have had someone else narrate this book. It could have been so much better. The audio on this book is awful. Don’t get me wrong, this book has a lot of great moments but it’s ruined by the way the man reads this book.

Long story short, I would highly recommend just to buy the book from the store and read it yourself because I could not get through the audio book. This man made my ears bleed and extremely difficult to understand him.

Loved this Work!

Anthony de Mello conveys his wisdom to us in his very easy to understand language that engages and inspires. He explains parables in depth, gives examples, and leads the listener to the ultimate lesson to be learned. Excellent work and well delivered.

A bit dry but thoroughly explained

I liked the content, had a few great points, notes to take with me and apply in my own life. I say a bit dry because I was hoping for more rang of tone when the narrator was expressing the examples, kind of read as a textbook but overall was interesting.

Real wisdom, clearly and simply expressed

This is a wonderful book, and one I intend to return to again and again for a reminder of essential truths that are so easy to forget.

I would go so far as to say this short book has the highest wisdom-per-word ratio of any book I can remember reading! And is a reminder in itself that real truth and wisdom is most clearly expressed through brevity and simplicity

Excellent if not for quite wooden performance

The content is rich with excellent life lessons and guidelines to a happier and healthier world. However compared with Awareness this loses a lot of the magic due to a wooden recording. Still excellent.
