When 40-something Laura Lewis is obliged to abandon a life of stylish independence in Paris to care for her elderly mother it seems all romantic opportunities have gone up in smoke.
Then she runs into Ben, the great love of her student days - and, as she only now dares admit, the emotional touchstone against which she has judged every man since. Are they brave enough to take a second chance at the lasting happiness fate has offered them?

The Care Dilemma
I am a fan of Patrick Gale. I am intrigued by his books, I like the characters he chooses to narrate his stories.. This book is no exception.
His descriptions of the practical side of 'caring' are spot on. He paints a picture of what it is like to be with one particular person, whom you love and who loves you, in great colour, with shadows.
I found this novel very engaging and I really cared about the protagonists.
The ending surprised me, but I liked it.
An easy listen, not too demanding.
