About this listen

'You can only find truth with logic if you have already found truth without it.'

First published in 1914, The Wisdom of Father Brown is the second collection of thrilling short stories starring G.K. Chesterton's most iconic creation: the priest detective, Father Brown.

The humble yet shrewd Father Brown returns in a series of epic mysteries that see him use his gift of human understanding to solve the crimes at play. After all, it is not just logic and rational thinking that can get to the root of these crimes – but moral reasoning too. In these twelve tales, we see a man seemingly disappear from a locked room, a staged robbery, a fatal love triangle and much more. Rather than mere criminal tricks, these stories offer profound psychological and spiritual truths. Effortlessly blending moral insight, philosophical reflection and wit, The Wisdom of Father Brown is another Chesterton classic for the ages. This audiobook edition is expertly narrated by Nicholas Boulton.

Gilbert Keith Chesterton (1874 – 1936) was an English novelist, philosopher, journalist and critic. A Christian apologist, he is famed for creating the fictional priest-detective Father Brown. His writing was also renowned for his sense of humour: known as 'the prince of paradox', Chesterton often turned common sayings upside down. Admired by several of his literary contemporaries, Chesterton's work is still widely read today.
