About this listen
In northern India, an eighty-year-old woman slips into a deep depression after the death of her husband, and then resurfaces to gain a new lease on life. Her determination to fly in the face of convention–including striking up a friendship with a transgender person–confuses her bohemian daughter, who is used to thinking of herself as the more ‘modern’ of the two.
To her family’s consternation, Ma insists on travelling to Pakistan, simultaneously confronting the unresolved trauma of her teenage experiences of Partition, and re-evaluating what it means to be a mother, a daughter, a woman, a feminist.
Rather than respond to tragedy with seriousness, Geetanjali Shree’s playful tone and exuberant wordplay results in a book that is engaging, funny, and utterly original, at the same time as being an urgent and timely protest against the destructive impact of borders and boundaries, whether between religions, countries, or genders.

Very bad narration
This is such a wonderful story, but it is so badly read that it really kills the joy in it. Breaks my heart!

Quite Poetic
While I did enjoy this book a lot it makes you laugh adn cry and go quiet, the story does meanders a lot this and that way, like the crows and sarees, the cricketers and flower gardens. The author writes for herself more it seems and that's what makes is enjoyable for me.

Excellent narration brings it beautifully alive
I chose this book as i was curious after all the award publicity. It took a little time to get fully immersed into the lives of amma and beti but this story has some beautifully intricate details which I really enjoyed. The meanderings and different perspectives are what makes the storyteling interesting. Loved the narration!

A story without head or tail.
Other than usage of various figures of speech and flowery words..there is nothing in this story..which could have been completed in 1/4 of time.
