Sounds fine to me

I'm glad I didn't let some of the other reviews keep me from listening to this book. The audio quality seemed to be an annoyance to many listeners of this book and was almost enough to keep me from downloading it because who really will pay attention to something that sounds like shit? Me being me, I figured I would check it out and decide on my own if the audio was that bad. To my very pleasant surprise, it sounded fine to me! That smell check passed and I was on my way to enjoying a very simple yet impactful book. I'm glad I came equip with some decision making skills before listening, but I'm really fucking happy to be leaving with a few more tricks of the trade. More than sufficient audio, great content, and just an over all dope ass experience. Thanks doc!

Last "Unf*ck" Book I Plan to Read

I am always a little disappointed by Faith Harper's books, but they do always contain small gems of wisdom. That being said, this is the second book of hers I've read and probably the last.

She should be more aware, as someone who brags about her PhD, that a lot of this book needs more expansion. The book is super short, so I feel that a little elaboration could go a long way.

For example, one of the first nuggets of "Adulting" is "Don't be a Dick".

Cool. But most people do NOT think they are dicks. So this advice doesn't help anyone unless they already think they're dicks.
The only elaboration she gave of this is, "If you know something you're doing is hurting other peoples feelings or making them uncomfortable, see Rule 1 [don't be a dick]."

Another Nugget: If there's something that needs to be done, do it.

Cool....

But how about procrastination and time management strategies?

Another complaint: she swears SO MUCH. I get that she wants to be relatable to her target audience, which I assume is regular Buzzfeed and Seventeen magazine readers.

How many times can a doctor write, "OMG." "Totes." "F**K." "Badass."

I think it doesn't help that her self confidence shows through as extreme pompousness. She is always using personal examples of how great and smart and clever she is.

And BTW, she criticizes other self help speakers and books like they're the devil. Not a great sign of true experience in counseling.

Who do I recommend this for? This book is probably better for high school seniors than actual adults.

If you are over the age of 19, just read an online summary.

Notable Quotes:
"Not my circus, not my monkeys."
"Truthy-truth." Yep. Faith Harper, PhD said 'truthy-truth'.
"If you get up and do the best you can do everyday. Then you'll get the best that you can get."

Faith G Harper is my savior

Very well written and I’m jealous of anyone is Faith’s private practice. This is a warm and welcoming woman who knows what she’s talking about. 10/10 would recommend

For what it’s worth...

Loved the logic, hated the cussing. I’m shocked because I cuss but it became a distraction. Good book, otherwise.

It’s ok. A bit too edgy for me.

It’s got some good concepts which I feel were good reviews of things I’ve learned but put all into a book. I personally didn’t like the overt adolescent speech style especially where she gives an example of defending LGBT people against the archetypical uncle by marginalizing his group. Seems like the thought process hadn’t come full circle and missed all the cisgender female Trump supporters which happens to be close to 50%.

Annoying

It’s not the cussing but the way she speaks was too annoying for me to continue listening. The choice of words is irritating

Approachable content! Unnecessary cursing

I loved how approachable this book was, and along with the practical content, I enjoyed the book as a whole. The author clearly knows her stuff! However, just a bit too much cussing. I’m no saint, and I use the word fuck often, but in this context it takes away from the message a bit.

Too many F-Bombs

Reminds me of the strange time when the F bomb became popular language on TV and radio. There are cooler ways to express our thoughts. Its not appetizing but the overall message is the understanding we have when we are honest. Im glad the writer put it out there. The writer is brave and honest. Good body of work overall. Helpful.

A great practical guide full of wisdom

Ironically a few of the reviewers couldn’t cope with a bit of swearing to emphasise points and lighten the discussions of often complex topics.

Dr Harper has an excellent skill in synthesising complex information from a multitude of current evidence-based sources and whittling it down to the essential summary of everyday practical solutions. Combined with a story and humour to illustrate each point, it makes listening to this audible book a pleasure.

Would highly recommend!

Good message, simply put

I enjoyed the book content, it made me have a few Ah-haah moments. I'll need to go back and listen again to done if the key messages I need to take on board.
Yes there's lots of swearing, but I think it's suited to the title and the content, it helped me make sense of the theme.
