Story
All across the country, people are waking up to lives different than the ones they fell asleep to. Are they suffering from False Memory Syndrome, a mysterious, new disease that afflicts people with vivid memories of a life they never lived? Or is something far more sinister behind the fracturing of reality all around him? Miles away, neuroscientist Helena Smith is developing a technology that allows us to preserve our most intense memories and relive them. If she succeeds, anyone will be able to re-experience a first kiss, the birth of a child, the final moment with a dying parent.

Good narration, didn’t enjoy the story.
I didn’t enjoy the story. It got too technical and seemed and became a struggle to finish.
However, I loved the narration of this story.

Another masterpiece by Blake
This is quite a thought provoking story line... Not sure why but it felt like reading Michael Crichton's work at a point.
Story line was fast paced and crisp. The story by itself was brilliant.
The performance was well done.

Starts well but ends in being a predictable affair
The premise is certainly intriguing - what if we some extra bells and whistles! The book starts well builds on to the concept of upgraded Homo Sapiens and whether that such upgraded version will still qualify as human but then quickly falls flat in the second half. The set pieces are typical and predictable in the later half.

OUT OF THIS WORLD
A very unusual thought and story line. Almost frightening but true in its projection of what mankind can do to itself. The ending rounds off the whole story and gives me hope. I was totally immersed in the book from beginning to end. Thank you to Blake Crouch

What makes us HUMAN... good, thought provoking
A near future thriller about gene editing. What will you change if technology for modifying our gene construct is available?
Will you want to be more intelligent? rational? stronger? disease resilient? compassionate?
This book has an answer. Or at least a good shot at it.
The book is simpler than Dark Matter or Recursion. Less science-fictiony. But a good entertaining, thought provoking read.

Modern and thoughtful.
I still love this author. This book is an incredible showcase of his skill as a writer and his love of his subject matter. The research put into this book is astounding.
More than the story itself, I was spellbound by the facts and sequences that bring it all to life.
A beautiful read and a powerful message.

Stunned
I love Blake crouch. Dark matter and recursion are two of my favourite books. Ever.
This one, on the other hand was so disappointing that I find it hard to believe it was written by the same author. It had none of the intrigue, genius or “wtf is going to happen next”that his other books have. With the others I couldn’t wait to finish to know what was going to happen. With this one I couldn’t wait to finish so that I’d be done and could move on to the next book.
Only reason I gave it a second star is because it’s Blake crouch. Not worth the time or money. Hope the next one is better.

Disappointing
After having read and loved both Dark Matter and Recursion by this author I was very much looking forward to this book. Preordered it and started listening to it as soon as I could but I just couldn’t get into the story… too similar to his previous books and quite repetitive (we get it, the main character is smarter and faster, no need to remind us every few paragraphs). I even upped the speed of the narration to 2,5x because I just wanted it to be over. Was expecting more. I will however cherish Dark Matter and Recursion

Food for thought, action packed
I'm a big fan on Blake Crouch and thoroughly enjoyed this book.
For a sci-fi thriller.....it had more depth than usual and evoked emotion at the end.
I won't give anything away, only to say if we all had compassion for consequence maybe the world would bea better place.
Also Mr Crouch was around over the last few weeks and it was great to speak the the author, having that connection to an author really makes a difference.

Underdeveloped
I think there are some interesting ideas here that go a little under developed as it descends quickly into the well trodden 'man on the run' trope. It has flavors of Flowers for Algernon, Dark Fields and Bourne but isn't nearly as well written as those touch points. He also lazily copies the plot foundation of mother and single child from Dark Matter.... That said I finished the book in two days so it clearly kept me engaged!

Decent
I enjoyed this book, but to be honest, after waiting for so long for its release, I was a little disappointed. I absolutely loved Dark Matter & Recursion and also enjoyed some of Blake’s earlier works. However, this story felt like it was lacking. I just wasn’t as engaged with the storyline and the ending didn’t have much impact. If this was a random book I’d picked up I would have been pleasantly surprised, but this isn’t a random book, it’s a Blake Crouch book and my expectations were incredibly high.

Downgrade [on Dark Matter and Recursion]
I had high hopes for this as I really enjoyed Dark Matter and Recursion, but this was very basic in comparison. I'll look at whatever is next more closely.
In comparison to Blake Crouch's other works, Upgrade has received mixed reviews from readers and listeners. While some have praised the book's fast-paced plot and gripping suspense, others have criticized it for lacking the depth and complexity of Crouch's other stories, such as Recursion and Dark Matter.
Recursion and Dark Matter are widely regarded as two of Blake Crouch's best works, with both books exploring mind-bending concepts and philosophical questions. Recursion explores the nature of memory and reality, while Dark Matter delves into the idea of multiverse theory and the consequences of our choices.

Mr Crouch delivers again. 👍 I always have some “but how”? Questions in the thousands of sci-fi I listen to. My But How’s were kept to a minimum & didn’t bother me for to long in this book. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Missed the mark for me.
I’m a huge fan of Blake Crouch, but this book didn’t do it for me. It started off okay, but as Logan becomes more upgraded, he seems to get more boring. He spoke almost robotically by the end, which I just found dull to listen to. (I listened to the audiobook.)
When they started talking about all the DNA’s they’ve upgraded… CB4, CDK2A, TER, KM11… I completely tuned out. That part went on for WAY too long. There were a lot of big, boring science words in this, which usually I don’t mind, but paired with a slow plot, just lost me.
It took me a while to finish this, and I didn’t feel excited to get back to it. The storyline was a little weak. The characters I didn’t really care for, and like I mentioned before, Logan just got boring. He became like an emotionless robot, which I suppose was the point, but without emotion a human is somewhat dull to follow.

Blake Crouch, always a great read!
Just like Dark Matter and Recursion, I could not stop listening to this book. Blake Crouch raises some interesting topics on how to deal with our ever growing knowledge.
Dark Matter is still my favourite novel from him, but I enjoyed Upgrade a lot!
