Trent came to Idaho seeking solitude. He built a cabin, broke a few wild horses, and quietly put his past behind him. Then King Bill Hale began laying claim to all the land around Cedar Bluff. Their property had been legally filed on, but Bill Hale has the men, money, and political power to steal it from them. What Hale doesn't realize is that Trent also has connections. With evidence that can ruin Hale's scheme, Trent must find a way past Hale's gang of thugs to the men who can help him.

Publisher's Summary
Matt Bardoul was a good man to have as a friend and a bad one to make trouble with. He was also a single-minded drifter - until he met his match in an outspoken beauty named Jacquine Coyle. She was headed into the Bighorn Mountains with her father and an expedition in search of gold. After Matt signs on to join them, he discovers that there is a group of outlaws in the party, gunfighters and thieves that Matt wouldn't trust for a minute.
At first it's unclear what they are planning, but before long Matt realizes that he's the only man standing between innocent people and a brutal conspiracy of greed, lust, and cold-blooded murder.

Never Disappointed!
I've just recently started reading and listening to Louis L'Amour books, and find I am hooked. Louis L'Amour is one of the all time great story tellers, and I've never been disappointed in any of his novels. His short stories are good, too...but leave me wanting more. Although I've been happy with audiobooks of his short stories.
"Westward the Tide" has everything you'd expect in a good western, and Robert Petkoff is a great narrator for this book.
If you like action, intrigue, with a little history and romance thrown in you should enjoy "Westward the Tide" .

Great read- no cheese, all beef
This book was a great read. Made my knees itch and
nipple single-serve the potash and slaw. Great characters, Much talk of beef jerky, and lashes that live a good life for love, friendship, and stewed beets.
Roll one up for the trail partner, and enjoy this book under the stars.

Good Western
Louis L’Amour is the quintessential writer of modern western stories. Modern being in the 20th century. He opens up Westward The Tide in perfect western movie fashion with Matt Bordoul riding into town tying up his horse and leaning his back up against a post. The book is filled with bad guys everywhere and Matt has to fight them off in a wagon train drive. He battles Indians, has a love interest that he has to save at the end from his arch enemy in a old fashion gun duel. The story concludes as Matt and his love interest, Jacquine, head off into the wide open country to start a family on a ranch. Just like most Spaghetti westerns, L’Amour used a simple formula that people love to read and even though this was his first long novel, he seems to have a good style that the reads and television like.

Boooooring.
LL just had to stuff this book with his musings on how the West was settled. If he stuck to the story of the gold, things might have gone well. However he did not and the book bored me from about chapter 2 so that I had to stop listening.
