I'm a girl who believes in science and facts. Not fate. Not destiny. Or dreams that will never come true. I'm definitely not the kind of girl who meets a cute boy on a crowded New York City street and falls in love with him. Not when my family is 12 hours away from being deported to Jamaica. Falling in love with him won't be my story.

Publisher's Summary
Now that Dimple Shah has graduated, she's ready for a break from her family - especially from Mamma's inexplicable obsession with her finding the Ideal Indian Husband. Ugh. But Dimple knows that her mother must respect that she isn't interested in doing that right now - otherwise she wouldn't have paid for her to attend a summer program for aspiring web developers, right?
Rishi Patel is a hopeless romantic, so when his parents tell him that his future wife will be attending the same summer program as him - during which he'll have to woo her - he's totally onboard. Because as silly as it sounds to most people in his life, Rishi believes in the power of tradition, stability, and being a part of something much bigger than himself. Although their parents hadn't planned suggesting the arrangement so soon, when their kids signed up for the same summer program, they figured why not?

Fun beginning, could have had tighter second half
I came here after watching Netflix Mismatched. Since I had seen the series, I knew of the plot, but the stories are not exactly same. First half of the book was fun. it had the right pace and evolved at the right points. I found the second half dragging a bit. though the emotional stuff was relevant, it could have been a bit tighter. also, since the plot involved a 6 week course plan, suddenly 3 weeks were completely skipped. So much could have evolved in those timelines. Anyway, it was a fun read. the narrators did a good job, but Vikas's imitation of the girl was a bit cringey.

Let's say it together...Awe!
Any additional comments?
The fact that this book would have an HEA was never in dispute. It was just a matter of what the couple went through to get there. I loved how the"obstacles" were real and not just some miscommunication that pulled/kept them apart.
Dimple and Rishi get my vote as the cutest couple of the year. This is the first time in my history of reading fiction that I had hoped for an epilogue. Things were resolved quite satisfactorily but I would have loved a fast forward to what they were doing or their wedding or to how the parents felt about their matchmaking.
The narration Blew. Me. Away. The chapters were told in first person POV and I had to check often to confirm that this was a solo narration effort. It sounded like two people!!! Sneha Mathan just nailed it.
I loved this couple. I loved how they met. I loved how they made each other better. I got the feels.

Shockingly Obtuse
“If you have nothing nice to say...” Well, I have to say something, but since I’m wading out here in the minority opinion pool, I’ll keep it to a concise list :-)
The Good:
➸ The Indian rep was a gift
➸ Rishi’s brother
➸ The premise for the entire storyline
The Bad:
➸ For the summer before college, the characterizations across the board were really immature
➸ Where was the STEM fun I was promised?!
➸ Rishi... he’s a bit too clingy for my taste (I guess I don’t like cinnamon buns haha)
The Ugly:
➸ Dimple... her girl hate was palpable
➸ Actually, the sheer amount of general hate that dripped from the pages
➸ D+R’s relationship... Nope.Nope.Nope. Rishi deserves a kinder partner.
Audiobook Performance: I don’t think I get on well with “his and her voices” audiobooks at this point. I always end up preferring one over the other.

disappointing
The narrators were good though sometimes the man's voice for Dimple was weird and cringey. The story itself was a let down. I was expecting a story about a girl with a passion for coding who pursues this career and invests her time in the competition she so 'desperately' wants to win. Instead I got 400 pages of Dimple slut shaming other girls, criticizing the rich kids for breathing, hitting Rishi, manipulating Rishi, and Dimple being the exact definition of "not like other girls". I wanted to scream all the time and I would've stopped reading had I know how infuriating the ending would be.

Takes me to when I was 18
When I bought the book - I read loads of reviews claiming this book is cute, and there were lots of comments about the cultural side of things. I think those are the just backdrop items in the overall story. what I loved about this book was how it took me back to when I was 18, confused about life, unable to articulate my feelings, when heartbreaks felt raw and stung worse than I could imagine, about how I thought I understood the world and my place in it. What I truly enjoyed about this book was going back to that, and relating to that version of myself. And that is what I really enjoyed about this book, the way that it took me back to my thoughts and feelings when I was young and just leaving home for college. If you want to recapture that thought, then buy this book.

easy listen
This book was overall enjoyable, but the plot only focused on Dimple and Rishi's relationship for the entire book. This made it extremely difficult to follow anything that was going on in other characters' lives. I personally did not care for Dimple as a character because she just does not get that Rishi is traditional. I really thought it was stupid that she breaks up with him (knowing that she might eventually have to marry him) because she wasn't looking for a relationship while at this competition. I also didn't like that Celia felt guilty for sleeping with Rishi's brother and needed to tell Dimple. This was too random and did not do anything for the plot. Overall, it was worth a read, but not worth rereading.
The audio was great, but if I listened to it at regular speed it seemed like they were talking too slow.

loved it until almost the end
It was great until Dimple panicked. I know she's young in the book, and maybe it's because I'm so much older than she is, but that seemed unnecessary. It ruined the book for me.

I Fell in Love with These Characters
When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon marries my two favorite genres: YA and romance. Dimple Shah is strong-willed, ambitious, and at 18 years old, not looking for her IIH (Ideal Indian Husband). Her parents, however, have other plans. When they readily agree to her attending a summer program for aspiring web developers, she thinks it’s because they finally understand her goals. But unbeknownst to her, it’s because they’ve been arranging for her to marry Rishi Patel—who also happens to be attending the same program. I was in a listening rut when I stumbled upon this book, and it was exactly what I needed to re-engage. Sneha Mathan and Vikas Adam are perfectly cast as Dimple and Rishi (I’ve already downloaded my next listens from each of them), and I fell in love with these characters as they fell in love with each other. Dimple’s unabashed ambition was refreshing (and sends a strong message to young girls with similar interests), while Rishi’s romanticism was simply endearing.

Sweet and fun
This was a delightful story- romantic and kind. Both narrators were wonderful. All characters were 3 dimensional and both families were loving and supportive. Dimple is a modern young woman, who knows what she wants to do with her life. Her struggle to follow her dream is nuanced and realistic. Rishi is equally nuanced and realistic, but he (like Dimple) discovers the path you always saw before you may just lead somewhere different... or, perhaps, may be wider than you first perceived it to be. A fun read/listen.

Cute Young Adult
Bought this book coz it was recommended to me not realising it was YA but I still had a good time. I think most kids are a bit more grown up by this age though - it's how innocent your parents thought you were not realising what you were really getting up to.
To clarify: brownies at a party would DEFINITELY co rain pot and kids these days do not have such embarrassing email addresses.
