Revived my love for classic romances

The best narration !!
I am exceedingly thankful to the narrators for so beautifully covering the most exquisite piece of literature and breathing life into its every chapter! The transitions, expressions, accents are absolutely on point.

Classic
Put this book on your list. No reading list is complete without it.
Emily Bronte here offers the classic Gothic novel. Dark secrets, vindictive villains, retribution, mystery... it's all included. The tale is a dark one. It has a semi-happy ending, but for the most part the story keeps to a dark, somber mood.
I enjoyed the recording. Janet McTeer and David Timson are two of my favorite narrators, and they put on first rate performances for this novel. Sound quality is excellent.
If you are looking for a happier book along the same lines then try Jane Eyre by Emily's sister, Charlotte Bronte. I prefer Jane Eyre to Wuthering Heights, but would suggest listening to both.

Wonderful narrator
I had never read Wuthering Heights and therefore did not know what I was in for and for the first hour almost quit listening because the characters struck me as so odd. But slowly the characters grew on me and I felt I had to continue it just so I could find out what happened to the miserable lot of people and also in the hope that some good would prevail in the end. I guess the ending was as good as it could be based on the sad portrayal of human character displayed by Heathcliff and Earnshaw. At times it was almost painful to go on listening.
The narrator (the housekeeper and other female characters) had a wonderful soothing voice that told the story so well and I felt like Mr. Lockwood wanting her to keep talking so I could hear the full story as well.

Janet McTeer is amazing
Both readers, but especially Ms. McTeer, were phenomenal in this audiobook. I highly recommend this version of the classic.

A Book of Poetry, Hard, Difficult Poetry
Janet McTeer and David Timson are magnificent narrators and perfect for Wuthering Heights. Emily Bronte wrote this one sheer, magically, unadulterated book of poetry then died. Some books I wear out: Pride and Prejudice, Northanger Abbey, Jane Eyre, The Enchanted April, Rilla of Ingleside. Other books just sit on my shelf of good intentions. They reproach me. I just noticed a Wuthering Heights in cd format on my shelf bought June last year still unopened; I think there is an unopened mp3 version also. I downloaded this version just to complete my Zune's Bronte collection. Why do I avoid this book? The anticipation of pain. The fortune teller in Rude Awakenings of a Jane Austen Addict said we humans will do anything to avoid pain. There is pain in this book. There is pain.
I was struck with certain similarities (not exact) of character, behavior, situation and the need for control, between Mr. Earnshaw and later Heathcliff in Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights, Captain Aylmer, the anti hero of Anthony Trollope's The Belton Estate, the husband of Helen Graham in Anne Bronte's The Tenant at Wildfell Hall, Mr Wemyss in Elizabeth von Arnim's Vera as well as St. John Rivers in Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre. How fascinating they are on first meeting and how easy the women were charmed by them. Still there was an element of simmering violence rippling just below the surface of these ordered lives. There was danger. These men will destroy what they cannot control. Some of the women in these stories finally broke free but others like Cathy or Heathcliff's wife could not, did not. There is pain in this book, a magnificent poetry of pain. The Bronte sisters knew pain well. Emily wrote this book straight from her heart and it is almost unendurable.

An Emotional Classic
Far more in-depth than any movie could portray. I was rivetted by the emotions and portrayals of these classic characters. The reading is compelling. I would highly reccomend.

Really, Really Bad Parenting!
I've always had a hard time getting through "Wuthering Heights" and still have difficulty loving any book (however "classic") which offers so few redeemable characters and so much frustration. I'm just saying - gloomy is not necessarily my thing.
But, there is a reason this has been read over and over and is greatly beloved. Emily Bronte's characters are so vibrant and so real that they engage your passion and interest, even if not your approval. No matter how many times you long to cry out "Get Over Yourself!", the story and those characters keep pulling you back in! It would be so interesting to see what Emily Bronte might have come up with had she lived to be a more mature author.
Any listener knows the narrator or narrators are key. Janet McTeer could not be better. In future, I will recommend that anyone new or returning to "Wuthering Heights" have the pleasure of experiencing her narration. She is a wonder!

Excellent Reading
I love the darkness that Heathcliff's love of Catherine becomes and the way this story plays out. But I especially love this audio version because of Janet McTeer's reading. The first time I listened, I literally gasped when she started reading because her voice is so soothingly perfect for storytelling. When I'm stressed and can't sleep, I love to listen to my iPod. McTeer's narration makes me feel like there is nothing more in the world but the story that her voice gives.

Great
I love Wuthering Heights, I read it back in school and it was great to revisit it. The Narration being done by two people i thought at first would be a little jaring but was actually very good, both readers are very talented and create perfectly the mood of this amazing ghost story/love story/horror

Best listen so far
Listening to this version of Wuthering Heights was absolutely riveting. Normally I don't like multiple readers but it worked very well for this production. I am left trying to decide if this is a love story or a tale of horror because the portrayal of Heathcliff as a seriously mentally ill man was so strong.

Brilliant Performance of a Great Novel
I wanted to reread this because I'd first read the book when I was much too young to appreciate it. I never got around to it and knew I wouldn't, so I got the book from Audible--a great decision! I enjoyed this recording far more than I would have enjoyed a reread. Audiobooks are the ideal format for first-person narratives. I chose this recording because I'd seen Janet McTeer on screen and stage and knew what a terrific actress she is. (She happens to come from the north of England, too, so she knows all the accents.)
This recording kept me riveted to my iPod. I couldn't wait to get back in the car to hear more and see what came next, even though I knew the story! The novel has a propulsive force that really comes through in McTeer's performance. (Her character narrates 90% of the book.) If you want to make Wuthering Heights really come alive, get this recording.

A near perfect Reading.
Janet McTeer's narration of this tragic classic is as near perfect as is possible to imagine. She gives each character complete plausibility to a point where I was feeling an empathy for even the darkest and cruelest of them.
The oppressive atmosphere created in the novel is wonderfully maintained and I felt I was transported to the windswept moors to witness this dark tale. Very highly recommended!

What a pleasure to listen to!
This is a well produced reading of Wuthering Heights that has re-awakened my enthusiasm for this book. With two narrators, one male and one female, detailing the story in its various parts, it brings to life the harrowing experience of all those living in the houses of Thrushcross Grange and Wuthering Heights. Heathcliff's brutality to all is vividly detailed, dispelling any notions that this is a love story. Rather it is a detailed description of neglect, abuse and psychosis which thrills the listener.
One of the wonderful things about audiobooks is that the dialects and phrasing used are spoken aloud and rendered into something understandable.
A pleasure to listen to for enjoyment and a must for anyone who is studying this novel.

Good, reet good or grand?
I listened to this book - it were all reet.
Having tried to get to grips with this one on three previous attempts, including having to tap dance around it during the second year of an undergraduate course - hats off to Janet McTeer and David Timson for keeping this one lucid and allowing me to get through this one. None of the rhapsody that others report, wondering what the fuss is about in respect of yon Heathcliff, but completed nontheless and very pleased to say I've read Wuthering Heights...a grand book?...hardly, it were nowt flashy, just down to earth and common sense...They're right good them MP3s aren't they - once you get used to them...Mother, pass me that bread knife and stop that damned dog barking...throw another brickle on that fire Edgar there's a storm brewing the night an we shall all perish in our beds if there's not a good flame in that grate...

nothing is better then classics......
Even if their bitter and depressing like this one. 'Wuthering Heights' by Emily Bronte is a story of hate and vengance and vendictivenees and it plays a bit like 'Romeo and Julliet' if you think sense the two main characters love clearly can't work out (not giving anything away). The interseting thing is as horrible as Heathcliff is i think the worst character is Hindely Earnshaw, Heathcliff's older sadistic and vendictive brother who likes to humilated Heathcliff constantly through the first half of the novel that does not excuse Heathcliff for what he does but it does add an extra lair to his personailty.
I won't go into a plot but i will say don't expect any laughter or chears from this novel because you won't get any it's doom and gloom for basicly all of it oh and for a novel wrriten by one of the Bronte sisters it's not a romance actually it's more of a historical/horror/revenge tale (there's ghosts in it that's all i'll say)

It's me, Kathy
Where does Wuthering Heights rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I love the fact I'm being asked to rate Wuthering Heights alongside other audiobooks. Given the popularity on Audible of Jeffrey Archer and Russel Brand it is a difficult question to answer. Perhaps I'll just keep it simple and say that yes, Emily Bronte ranks favourably among these contemporary literary giants.
What other book might you compare Wuthering Heights to, and why?
Again Russel Brand A Revolution comes to mind in that the central characters in both works have little to recommend them and are actually quite hateful. You have no sympathy for any of those involved. In the case of Brand's work you don't even have sympathy for the readers!
Which scene did you most enjoy?
You have to say Kathy's ghost appearing to Lockwood. Cliche and obvious but brilliantly chilling, exciting and ambiguous in it's sense within the novel.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Give me 13 hours to sit and listen and I'll give it a darn good go.

Character voices make uncomfortable listening
I found the narration very off-putting. When the nurse speaks as herself she is wonderful but when she speaks the words of the male characters -particularly Heathcliffe and Cathy's cousin-the narration is so grating that I cannot enjoy listening at all. I would suggest trying a different audio version.

Great Narration
The narration is really good, believable accents & good pace. Glad I chose this reading. The story itself seemed duller than when I first read it 30 years ago, I suspect that's more to do with me being jaded than the book though. Still a must read book.

Fantastic narration bring thus to life
If you could sum up Wuthering Heights in three words, what would they be?
Long but worthwhile
What was one of the most memorable moments of Wuthering Heights?
The whole book is memorable, but the scenes on the moors really allow the listener to feel the characters intentions and feelings
What about Janet McTeer and David Timson ’s performance did you like?
You can really tell who is who, as Wuthering Heights contains lots of almost unreadable accented dialogue the narrator did well to make it easy up to understand
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Haunting story, wonderfully told!
I've known the story of Wuthering Heights for many years and when I saw it as an audiobook, I decided to listen to it all over again and this version did not disappoint. I loved the dual narration as it really brought the text to life. The story is, I think, well known and this presentation did it full justice!

Timeless masterpiece brilliantly told
Often cited as the greatest ever work of English literature (a view I share) this haunting character study could not have been better told by Janet McTeer. A truly mesmerising performance. Brought up in York and a star in a film version she was made for this role. Absolutely fantastic
