تسعى هذه المختارات الشعرية إلى إبراز ما يُمثّل عيون الشعر من أفكارٍ وقضايا محددة. وهو ما تطلّب معرفة بالفكرة، وبحثاً عنها، واختيار أجملها وأقدرها على تجسيد تلك الأفكار والقضايا. وتسعى المختارات، كذلك، إلى تلمّس تطوّر الشعرية العربية، في مقارباتها المتعددة معرفِياً وجمالياً، عبر المراحل المختلفة من تاريخ الشعر العربي. وبهذا فإن هذه المختارات تلتقي مع مثيلاتها في الإعلاء من البعد الجمالي والفرادة في الفكرة، وفي الوقت نفسه، تقدّم، ضمنياً، بعداً معرفياً، عن قضية عميقة في تطوّر الشعر العربي. وهذا الاجتماع المعرفي والجمالي يؤدّي بالضرورة إلى الارتقاء بالذائقة الشعرية.
